Acorn Campground

Overview

Acorn Campground offers a peaceful, wooded retreat situated in the heart of Cape May County. Known for its tall oak trees and shaded sites, this family-owned destination provides a classic camping experience away from the heavy traffic of the coastal boardwalks. It strikes a balance between a quiet natural environment and the convenience of being just a short drive from the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a longer summer stay, the park provides a welcoming atmosphere for all types of travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Green Creek, the park is strategically positioned along the Cape May Peninsula, making it a gateway to the region’s best attractions. It is surrounded by lush greenery and coastal woodlands, offering a cooling buffer from the more commercialized beach areas. Guests enjoy the easy access to the Delaware Bay, which provides stunning sunsets and a calmer atmosphere compared to the ocean side. The flat terrain of the surrounding area also makes it excellent for cycling and exploring local nature preserves and backroads.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is well-equipped for families, featuring two refreshing swimming pools to help cool off during the warm summer months. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the park includes a dedicated fishing pond, a playground for children, and a game room for entertainment. Practical needs are met with a modern laundry facility, clean bathhouses, and a camp store stocked with essential supplies and ice. Each site is designed to integrate with the woods, providing a sense of privacy often missing in high-density coastal parks.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors are perfectly placed to explore the famous attractions of Southern New Jersey. The Cape May County Park & Zoo is a short drive away and offers free admission, while the historic Victorian architecture of Cape May is just down the road. For more excitement, the Wildwood Boardwalk provides world-class amusement rides and miles of sandy beaches within twenty minutes of the campground. Nature enthusiasts will also appreciate the proximity to birdwatching hotspots and local vineyards that define the area’s unique coastal character.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal match for families looking for a budget-friendly basecamp near the shore. It appeals to RVers who prefer a shaded, rustic aesthetic over paved resort lots that can feel exposed and crowded. Because of its quiet evenings and family-centric community atmosphere, it is particularly well-suited for seasonal campers and travelers who want to explore both the quiet nature trails and the bustling beach towns of the Jersey Shore without staying in the middle of the noise.

I saw all the bad reviews and canceled my first time I booked. The next day me and my wife decided that we should give it a shot and I’m glad we did. I honestly loved it there. The pool is open and it’s really nice, the location is 10 minutes from Wildwood and there’s a bunch of restaurants around going towards the beach. We had an issue with our breaker the first night and it took them 15 minutes to help us out. The employees are so kind and helpful and that’s very important to us. For the negatives, there’s only Wi-Fi in the lobby, some of the arcade machines are down, and the shower area can use a really good scrubbing. Honestly, the good weigh out the bad and we will definitely be coming back many times in the future.

Would never stay here again. The pool is not open for the summer and we were not informed of this. They advertise 2 playgrounds and there is only 1. The roads have potholes all over, couldn’t even ride my bike. The gate is constantly up so anyone could come in. The bathrooms are filthy. The fishing ponds are overgrown. Mosquitoes and tics everywhere. They definitely need to spray. The manager never addresses any issues. Don’t waste your money here!!

3rd year as a seasonal resident here and I couldn’t be more disappointed with the property management company that owns the place. This is the 3rd year in a row that we haven’t had a pool open when it’s supposed to be. This year it appears like we won’t have one all summer. And the management here is trying to blame the delay on us, for questioning the township about permits. It’s poorly lit coking from the street. Dangerous pulling in when towing. The roads are in horrible condition, my kids can’t ride their bikes anymore. Their “fishing” ponds are horribly overgrown and untreated.

This used to be a family owned and lovingly operated campground, but ever since it was aquired by Thousand Trails it is a run down and disappointing WASTE OF MONEY. Arriving in the dark is very dangerous as there is no light on main road at the turn in. We were not informed in advanced the pool wouldn't be open this summer. Major construction debris lay all over the guest parking lot. They list two playgrounds in the amenities, but there's only one for kids over five. There is no playground equipment for children under 5 not even a baby swing in the playground. NOT INCLUSIVE. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. The bath houses are not clean. We came home covered in ticks. Mosquitos are rampant. The ponds are overgrown, the roads are dangerously full of potholes. Often, the gate is left open overnight, meaning no sense of security for guests at all.

I am a seasonal camper here. I love having my family and friends down, and of course, our camper friends are like family. The cons ever since Acorn Campground was purchased by Thousand Trails, the campground is like the forgotten stepchild, the roads inside are horrible, and we will not have a pool this year, because they did not do their job and pull the correct permits 2 weeks before Memorial Day. There are no safe fishing ponds FYI. But they keep raising the fees all of us seasonals have a very hard decision to make.
