I went on a camping trip with family and it was amazing. Beautiful pond and beautiful scenery overall it was a great time however there are no places to shower within 15 minutes.

What a beautiful location. The campground is well kept and clean and was very quiet. I took the last site on the road that was very tucked away and private. There are other sites with better views of the lake but there was a nice view of it 20 ft into the woods. For the busiest time of the year I was pleasantly surprised that it felt so private.

I lived and recreated in Alaska for 30 years. I don’t have unrealistic expectations of state park campgrounds. This is a primitive campground. There are several flush toilets and cold potable water. The roads and sites are acceptably maintained dirt. You don’t need more than a sedan to get around. The campground is away from main roads so it is very quiet. Most sites are small but level and well separated from others. The forest is thick with conifers which provide shade but which block cooling breezes. Sites are gloomy on cloudy days and darkness comes quickly and thoroughly. Showers are available at Golden Beaches campground, also a NY state park and it is just a five mile drive. The restroom and shower I used there are in terrible condition. Some basins, showers, toilets were out of order. The floor outside my shower stall had an inch of standing water so figuring how to keep my shoes and socks dry while putting them on was challenging and probably funny to watch. Your registration at Brown Tract Pond gives you access to Golden Beaches campground. I only interacted with two staff members, both at Golden Beaches campground. They were helpful and friendly. I would not return to either campground.

The only site with a pit toilet are the sites outside the campground proper area. The roads are not well maintained. Staff was high as a kite at check in. Supposed to walk 1/4 downhill in the dark to use a 1960's screenhouse for a bathroom where none of the stalls have any kind of latch, and won't close fully, toilets have broken flush levers and perverts can watch you through the screens because the doors have no latch. Never again. Wild camping in the wilderness has better amenities without the pay to play

Wow! Want to get away, this is it! Well maintained. Sites spaced apart or get a group together! Friendly staff. We only did a drive thru and were impressed !

The campground itself is really beautiful, but it's falling apart and the rangers don't enforce the rules at all. One of the steps down into my campsite disintegrated when I stepped on it, the wood was rotten. The bathrooms are very dated, you have to drive 15 minutes away to Golden Beach Campground to use their showers (free at least), because there are no working ones at this campground. People run their generators outside of the actual time and for far longer than what's in the rules, one day a camper ran it from 9am to about 1:30 and this morning from 7:45am to a little after 9:30am. The rangers did nothing. The booth is also only open for 3 hours a day and the road to the campground desperately needs a proper paving. On the plus side, the sites are spacious and there is a fair amount of privacy between sites. You can hear loons and the pond is very scenic. If you go in summer bring plenty of bug spray, the mosquitoes are huge and plentiful.

While this is a camper’s paradise with a remote location and beautiful lakeside campsites, it is very unsafe for older campers. As an avid camper and Registered Nurse for over 45 years, it is natural for me to have a focus on public health and safety. The bathroom serving our campsite (36) was situated on top of a hill with stairs leading to it. There was absolutely no lighting in or outside the bathroom although there were light fixtures in place. When I asked about this situation I was told “we run on generator power only and we don’t have enough of it to light the bathrooms…talk to the DEC in Indian Lake”. When I mentioned someone could easily fall and break a hip in the dark of night with only a flashlight to light the way, his response was “that would be unfortunate since it would take a while for EMT’s from Raquette Lake to reach us.” When we were camping, our neighbors on both sides of us were easily in their 70’s. Throughout the day the sound of the campground’s generators could be heard…campers should at least have bathroom lighting to compensate for the noise intrusion. This campground doesn’t seem to consider safety as a priority.

Been going there for 40 years, quiet, not as well maintained as in the past, still good.

A beautiful place to camp. Not a lot to do. They aren't doing any kayak or canoe rentals this year ☹. But some beautiful views. The fishing was scarce but would be better from a boat. But the water is clean. There's water spickets at a lot of sites. And the fire pits are nice. No cell service but that was expected.
