Adirondack/Hearthstone Point

Overview

Hearthstone Point Campground serves as a premier destination for travelers seeking a traditional camping experience on the shores of the Queen of American Lakes. Managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, this park provides a classic Adirondack atmosphere where the forest meets the water. With its terraced campsites and mature tree canopy, the park offers a tranquil escape that feels secluded despite its proximity to local highlights. It is an established favorite for those who value the preservation of the natural landscape.

Location & Surroundings

Located on the scenic western shore of Lake George, the park is situated just two miles north of the vibrant Lake George Village. The surrounding terrain is characterized by heavily wooded slopes that provide natural shade and privacy for visitors. The landscape features the rugged beauty of the Adirondack Park, offering a dramatic contrast between the crystal-clear waters of the lake and the towering evergreen forests. This location allows for easy access to both deep-woods exploration and lakeside recreation.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic facility focused on the outdoor environment, meaning there are no water or electric hookups at the individual sites. However, the park offers essential features for a comfortable stay:

  • A guarded swimming beach that serves as a central hub for summer cooling.
  • Modern bathhouses equipped with hot showers and flush toilets.
  • Spacious picnic areas with charcoal grills and seasonal wood sales.

RVers should be prepared for dry camping, though a centralized dump station and water fill locations are available. The park can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet in length, though maneuvering requires care on the wooded interior roads.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, the region is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors often head into Lake George Village for historic steamboat cruises or to explore the shops and restaurants along the strip. For those seeking a panoramic view, the hike or drive up Prospect Mountain provides stunning vistas of the entire lake basin. Additionally, the nearby Warren County Bikeway offers miles of paved trails for cyclists and runners to enjoy the fresh mountain air and local scenery.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature-focused travelers who prioritize a prime location and natural beauty over resort-style luxuries. It appeals heavily to families looking for a traditional summer vacation centered around swimming and campfires. Because the sites lack hookups, it is best suited for self-contained RVers or those comfortable with a more primitive setup. If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the wind through the pines, this is the perfect Adirondack retreat for your next trip.

Wow what a gem on Lake George. So grateful for the state of NY to offer to residents an inexpensive nature experience with a million dollar view! Tent only so getting back with nature at its best!

The WORST experience! If you want to bring your family, don't! If you want to sleep after a long day at the lake, you won't! I am laying here listening to people blasting music, cursing up a storm and just being disrespectful to others at the campsite. This is not just one group of campers like this, this is many! Luckily my kid sleeps through a lot but I can't and this is AWFUL! Club music, karaoke and potheads galore... DO NOT CONSIDER THIS PLACE!

“I was very disappointed with this campsite. The facilities were dirty, the bathrooms were not maintained, and the staff didn’t seem helpful at all. The noise at night made it impossible to relax. Definitely not the peaceful camping trip I was hoping for.” Bad bad bad

Sites are a little tight next to each other but you are camping at this campground mostly because of access to being on Lake George and the short 10 minute drive to the town over being away from people.

Heartstone Point has deteriorated and not attended, too. The grounds are terrible, Fireplaces are not in the best of shape. Sites are small. I've been coming to Heartstone Point for the last 50 years, and I can not believe how bad this campsite has deteriorated so much. This used to be a great campground, absolutely no maintenance. It's a shame the State would allow this to happen. The state needs to investigate management at this site and do a walk through with the staff!
