Adirondack/Lake George Battleground

Overview

Nestled in the historic heart of the Adirondack Mountains, the Adirondack/Lake George Battleground campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty and colonial history. Managed by the state, this facility provides a serene wooded retreat just steps away from the bustling center of Lake George Village. It is situated on the site of significant military activities from the 18th century, making it a destination rich with historical heritage and impressive old-growth trees that provide ample shade for visitors.

Location & Surroundings

The park is perfectly situated on the southern basin of Lake George, providing a peaceful escape while maintaining unmatched walkability to local amenities. Visitors are surrounded by towering pines and oaks that create a dense canopy over the campsites, offering a distinct forest atmosphere. Despite its proximity to the main thoroughfares of the village, the thick vegetation and natural topography provide a surprising sense of seclusion and a refreshing buffer from the noise of the nearby tourist center.

Amenities & Park Features

This park offers a classic, rustic camping experience focused on traditional outdoor living rather than modern resort luxuries. The facility features sixty-eight campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings for evening gatherings. While there are no electric or water hookups at individual sites, the park provides essential comforts including hot showers and flush toilets. A centrally located dumping station is available for RVers, and the park staff provides firewood and charcoal sales for guest convenience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Guests can easily stroll from their campsite to the world-famous Million Dollar Beach for swimming and sunbathing or visit the historic Fort William Henry Museum. The adjacent Battlegrounds Park offers interpretive trails and monuments detailing the area's storied past. For those seeking adventure, the nearby Prospect Mountain Highway offers sweeping panoramic views of the lake, while the village features a wide array of shopping, lakeside dining, and evening entertainment options.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize a prime location over full hookups or resort-style amenities. It appeals strongly to history enthusiasts and families who want to be within walking distance of the lake and village attractions without the need for a car. Travelers looking for a quiet and authentic Adirondack experience at a state-run facility will find this park provides the perfect balance of convenience, value, and natural tranquility.

The woman Heidi that assists in registration is great. She assisted me and my husband in choosing a site we would like and it was awesome. We spent 3 days and the following week returned to the same site. Thank you Heidi, this is the other Heidi.

For the three days my family have booked and planned to stay at this campground, we only lasted one day, as our experience here was pretty bad, my only positive about this place is ease of access to town and Lake George itself. The "campgrounds" did not really feel like campgrounds as you were right next to other people, and our campsite did not come with any picnic tables like the other sites next to us did, we complained about it with the staff, and although friendly, we had to get the table ourself from a neighboring empty lot. From our arrival to the next morning, my family and I were just restless from the conditions, and so decided we would leave that morning. At least we also had a well kept comfort station nearby, however that was littered with so many bugs, especially in the shower rooms, every side of the wall had bugs on it, enough to creep me out. We may have just gotten unlucky with what we had to deal with and should try finding another lot in the campground to stay at, and maybe I will leave a more positive review, but as of right now, that experience was horrible for us.

I was here camping 2 days ago on August 20th when a group of people nearby got three complaints from some other people saying that they were too loud just because they were laughing and talking, having a good time. Then at the third compliant (they were just making their beds), the owner came over to them and cursed them out and told them to shut up, and the family left. And they spent over $300 and didn’t get a refund!!! This is ridiculous and no one should be treated like that

We had a very upsetting experience at this campsite. Our group came with multiple families, paid the full $60 per person fee, and set up our tents. We understand that we received noise complaints and we were doing our best to quiet down. However, when the owners came to speak to us, instead of addressing the situation professionally, they repeatedly told our group to “shut up” (about 5–7 times) without letting us explain that we were already settling down for the night. That kind of language was extremely disrespectful. It shouldn’t matter whether we were paying customers or not—no one deserves to be spoken to in that way. Because of how we were treated, we decided not to stay the night. When we told the owners we wouldn’t be coming back, their response was something along the lines of, “Good, we don’t want you back.” We left feeling completely disrespected and unwelcome. At the very least, customers deserve to be spoken to with professionalism and courtesy. We believe that a refund, an apology, or at the very least, a partial refund is appropriate for the situation, as we did not even end up staying the night.

Very convenient to most attractions, plus your camping pass gets you into many nearby state park day use areas during your stay.
