Adirondack/Little Sand Point

Overview

Little Sand Point Campground offers a serene escape into the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Located along the shoreline of Piseco Lake, this state-operated facility provides a classic camping experience where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the forest and the water. It is a place where the calls of loons and the gentle rustle of the hardwoods take precedence over the distractions of modern life. The park is managed to preserve its rustic charm, ensuring that every visitor feels a deep connection to the surrounding wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the southwestern portion of the Adirondack Forest Preserve, the park is nestled within a lush canopy of mature maples and beeches. The site is positioned perfectly for those looking to explore the West Canada Lake Wilderness. Its location in Piseco, NY, offers a remote feel while remaining accessible enough for a weekend getaway. The campground sits on the west shore of the lake, providing campers with exceptional views of the water and the rolling green peaks that define this famous New York region.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional destination, the park prioritizes simplicity and direct access to the outdoors. Key features include a concrete boat launch for easy lake access and numerous campsites that sit directly on the water’s edge. While the park does not offer electric hookups, it provides essential facilities such as vault toilets, a recycling center, and firewood sales. The sites are well-spaced and designed to accommodate various RV sizes in a wooded, private setting that honors the traditional camping spirit.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities to fill their days. The famous Northville-Placid Trail passes nearby, offering world-class hiking opportunities for all skill levels. On the water, visitors enjoy fishing for landlocked salmon and lake trout. For those who enjoy a rewarding view, the hike up Panther Mountain provides a stunning vista of the lake and the vast Adirondack canopy, making it a favorite for photographers and nature lovers alike.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for RVers who prefer dry camping and value privacy and scenery over resort-style amenities. Beautiful campground right on the lake, half of the sites have a direct view of the lake from the sites! Love this spot!

A very cool little camping spot! Kayaking out on the lake was wonderful and our site being right on the water was perfect. Restrooms and showers were pretty nice for a campground. The Echo Cliff trail was right across from our site and is a must-do, a spectacular view. There’s also many cool mosses and mushrooms along the trail. The view of the stars at night was amazing, and all of the little toads were very cute. We came in July and expected it to be crowded but it was not and the crowd there was very chill. We drove 11 hours from Indiana to camp here and we recommend!

First time visiting the campground. We used a tent for our stay. I have visited other parks where you must stay in your area so your stuff can be there safely. The site was clean, a little bit of an incline, so make sure your camper or tent is level. The bathroom was very clean, I was very happily surprised by this, as you don't see that in public restrooms. They had a shower, too. The views were beautiful as most sites have access to the water. It was easy to check in and out. It was safe since we went on hikes, and when we came back, everything was still there. Dogs are allowed, but please, keep them on a leash and pick up their waste after they are done. Also, don't play with them if they are going to bark after 10 pm. Just be considering of the people around your site.
