Adirondack/Moffitt Beach

Overview

Moffitt Beach State Campground is a premier destination for those seeking a true Adirondack wilderness experience on the shores of Sacandaga Lake. Known for its towering pines and spacious layouts, this campground offers a serene escape from the hustle of modern life. It provides a perfect balance between rugged nature and organized camping, making it one of the most popular state-run facilities in the Lake Pleasant region for RVers and tent campers alike.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the southern Adirondack Mountains, the park is located just outside the charming village of Speculator. The sites are heavily wooded with mature birch and maple trees, providing excellent privacy and natural shade for your rig. The park’s primary draw is its extensive frontage along the crystal-clear waters of Sacandaga Lake, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding rolling hills and dense forests that define the New York interior.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features over 250 campsites, many of which are level and can accommodate larger RVs up to 40 feet. While there are no electric or water hookups, the park provides well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets. Key features include a large sandy swimming beach, a guarded swimming area, and a convenient boat launch. Each site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table for a traditional outdoor living experience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless activities, from fishing for smallmouth bass and trout to paddling along the quiet shoreline. Nearby, the Panther Mountain trail offers a family-friendly hike with rewarding views of the lake system and the village below. Visitors can also head into the village of Speculator to explore local artisan shops, grab a meal at a classic country diner, or stock up on camping supplies at the historic general store.

Who This Park Is Best For

Moffitt Beach is ideal for travelers who prioritize natural beauty and tranquility over resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a classic summer lake vacation and RVers who enjoy dry camping in a peaceful, immersive forest setting. If you value scenic waterfront access and a quiet atmosphere where the sounds of loons replace highway noise, this park will fit your travel style perfectly.

Very friendly staff, nice camp spots and an all around fun place to camp! Nice large beach, kayak, canoe and boat access. Places to walk, hike or bike near by but the grounds are large and provide nice area for walks too. Water easily accessible for all camping areas. They don't sell firewood or ice but you can get it close by!

Great lake very warm water, great service, busy campground. Close to the public bathing area it was very crowded, lots of families and no animals allowed on that beach. However, I stayed over in the area that is sites 180+ which was spaced out very nicely, there were many areas to get into the water from your site and it was much less crowded. If you are looking for less going on I definitely recommend the farther area!

I just LOVED this place. NY frustrated me with no photos of campsites so this was a gamble for us. We actually ended up switching sites and site 200 is gold everyone! Right at the bottom of the hill to the bathrooms but far enough you can’t tell. Also literally on the water so the views and kayak/paddleboard options are amazing. I really want to come back as we loved this place so much!

Highly recommend! We had a great time, staff was very helpful and shower and bathroom units were very clean and well kept. Sites are large and we had an incredible view. The beach is clean with nice sand and a refreshing water temperature.
