Overview

Overview

Ajo Heights RV Park offers a quiet and welcoming home base for travelers exploring the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona. This park is designed for those who appreciate a slower pace and the stark, rugged beauty of the desert landscape. It serves as a comfortable, no-frills destination for RVers looking to escape the hustle of city life while enjoying the mild winter climate that makes this region a popular seasonal retreat.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the historic town of Ajo, the park is positioned near the edge of vast public lands. Visitors are surrounded by the iconic Saguaro cactus and dramatic desert mountain ranges that define this corner of the state. The town itself maintains a distinct historic character, with its Spanish Colonial architecture and mining history providing a unique backdrop for your stay. You will find that the surrounding area is perfect for stargazing and enjoying unobstructed desert vistas.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to support both short-term stays and extended seasonal visits. Guests can count on full hookup sites that accommodate various rig sizes comfortably. The atmosphere is generally laid-back, focusing on providing the essential services travelers need, such as reliable utility connections and well-maintained gravel pads. There is plenty of space to relax outdoors, allowing you to fully embrace the quiet, arid environment that makes Arizona camping so memorable for desert enthusiasts.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers will find plenty to explore within a short drive of the park. The primary draw is the proximity to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a spectacular biosphere reserve known for its hiking trails and scenic drives. Whether you are interested in birdwatching, photography, or simply taking in the unique flora of the Sonoran Desert, the local geography offers endless opportunities. The town of Ajo also hosts community events and local markets that provide a genuine sense of small-town hospitality.

Who This Park Is Best For

Ajo Heights RV Park is an ideal choice for snowbirds and nature lovers who prioritize a tranquil, desert-focused experience over resort-style glitz. This is a very cute RV Park on the way to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The park is well maintained, the grounds immaculate. They have one washer and two dryers available. Looks like they usually have two but one was out of order. They have two public shower/bathrooms. The mens is currently under construction. The other bathroom has the toilet and shower in one room. We were here for three nights and had everything we needed. It is quiet and convenient. They do business old school. Just took our reservation without a deposit or credit card. When we got here our name was written in a note book and we paid with a check to save the 4% credit card fee.

Great launching place for Rocky Point Mexico and beautiful Organ Pipe Ntl. Monument visit. Groceries across the street, stunning BLM land sunsets nearby, downtown plaza just 5 min drive. Ajo Heights Campground is maintained with a highly attentive manager. We decided to stay an extra month Feb and March because we fell in love with Ajo! Our only constructive comment is the owners need to put some money into the showers and laundry.

This is the place to stay in Ajo! Well-kept RV park with full hookups, WIFI, concrete slabs at sites, clean bathroom and laundry, friendly host, and much more charm than spending the night in one of those RV parking lot-style campgrounds. It’s also a great jumping off point for Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The town of Ajo is lovely and well-restored with lots of active businesses and a beautiful plaza. What a special place.

Great RV park! Nice wide and clean gravel sites helps to keep down the dust. Cable TV was being worked on during our stay, but we didn't come there to watch TV. Cellular service and WiFi bandwidth is very limited, so don't plan on streaming anything.
