This campground is beautiful and well kept, I always have enjoyed coming here. However as a teenager who has been coming to this campground for 10 years, I have never felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable just doing things like using the bathroom for fear of being yelled at. Many people in our large group including my grandpa, uncle, great uncle, etc. were confronted aggressively several times for “breaking rules” that we weren’t even aware of. It truly ruined the last couple of days of our family reunion. The new managers are immature and rude to say the least! I used to love coming here every year, but unless there is a change in management, I hope our family will be finding a new place to go. My family was swore at, yelled at, and harassed for several days. Rick and Kathy interrupted our activities to do many things such as yell, swear, pour dirt on a site we were renting (he then drove back and forth on the pile of dirt while laughing for about 5 minutes before we asked him politely to stop as we were using and renting the spot). We were yelled at for this. To top it all off, the owners are the only ones who don’t have to have their dog on a leash? This dog jumped off the golf cart, ran around our sites, and peed on our tent as Rick was telling our cousins that he unplugged their water due to a slow drip. Real hypocrisy here!

What a gem!! Love that you walk into bathrooms and they smell fresh because they are so clean! The owners, Kathy and her husband are wonderful and have the place organized and inviting. Oh. I forgot to mention how beautiful the lake is! We will definitely stay here again when in the area.

It’s an amazing place. A well organized and managed site. Both Rik and Kathy are awesome and hospitable hosts. They helped us a lot and extremely friendly. I would highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for peace, tranquility and fun.

This was our first time staying at the Akeley campground. After a two day drive from Texas, it was great to get into the campground and see how amazing this place is. It is one of our favorite campgrounds now, and we will be back. Rick and Kathy truly made this trip too! The work they put in to keep the campground up to a high standard is the most I have ever seen in a campground. Cleanest bathrooms in the United States! They take awesome care of the sites and always helpful. Thanks for an awesome experience!
