Algonquin/Kiosk
Overview
The Algonquin/Kiosk campground offers a unique opportunity to explore the northern edge of Ontario’s most famous provincial park. Located at the site of the former lumber town of Kiosk, this destination provides a quiet wilderness experience away from the busier Highway 60 corridor. Visitors can enjoy the serene beauty of Kioshkokwi Lake, which serves as both a picturesque backdrop for the campground and a primary gateway to the park's expansive interior water routes.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the township of Calvin, ON, the park is reached by traveling down the winding Highway 630. This location is characterized by dense northern forests and the expansive, clear waters of Kioshkokwi Lake. Unlike the central parts of the park, the northern boundary offers a more rugged landscape where the Canadian Shield's rocky outcrops meet deep wilderness, providing a stunning and secluded visual for every traveler who makes the journey.
Amenities & Park Features
As a more primitive destination, the park features vault toilets and potable water taps scattered throughout the grounds. While it lacks the modern electrical hookups found in urban RV parks, it provides spacious sites that can accommodate smaller RVs and trailers looking for a dry-camping experience. The historic townsite markers offer a glimpse into the area's industrial past, while the well-maintained boat launch ensures easy access for those bringing their own watercraft to explore the shoreline.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of recreation, starting with premier paddling routes that lead deep into the Algonquin interior. The Dashwa Trail offers a moderate hike through the forest, providing excellent birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities. Fishing is another major draw, with the lake being known for lake trout and smallmouth bass. For a change of pace, the nearby town of Mattawa offers additional cultural history and local dining options within a short drive.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize solitude and natural beauty over resort-style amenities. It is a perfect fit for RVers with smaller rigs or those equipped for off-grid camping who want to immerse themselves in a quiet, forested environment. If you are an avid paddler or nature photographer looking to escape the crowds, the Kiosk access point provides the peaceful atmosphere and direct water access you crave.

Camped here, 3 nights, beautiful place, small, large sites, not very private, but was a quiet stay. Water/lake was amazing. Walked the rail trail twice, Birch trees. And fall colors!

We were at site 12. Amazing spot right by the water. Theres also starlink wifi at the campground office. No cell service though. Firewood and kindling available at office. You can rent canoes. No hiking trail sadly, but you can enjoy the quiet lake view whole day, Believe me.
