Algonquin/Rock Lake
Overview
Located deep within the iconic Algonquin Provincial Park, Rock Lake Campground offers RVers a quintessential Canadian wilderness experience. Unlike more accessible roadside stops, this park provides a serene escape along the shores of Rock Lake. Visitors can enjoy a mix of electrical sites and non-electrical options, all nestled beneath a canopy of towering pines. It is a place where the sounds of the highway are replaced by the call of the loon and the gentle rustle of forest leaves.
Location & Surroundings
Positioned eight kilometers south of the Highway 60 corridor near Whitney, ON, the park feels remarkably secluded. The drive in takes travelers through dense hardwood and coniferous forests, setting the stage for a primitive retreat. The campground is situated on the shores of Rock Lake, serving as a gateway to the park’s vast interior. The rugged Canadian Shield topography provides a dramatic backdrop for every campsite, ensuring a strong sense of immersion in nature.
Amenities & Park Features
While the setting is rugged, the park includes essential comforts for modern RV travelers. Facilities include a modern comfort station equipped with flushing toilets, showers, and laundry services. For those with larger rigs, there are several sites with electrical hookups to keep appliances running. The park also features a sandy beach for swimming and a dedicated boat launch, making it easy to transition from the campsite to the water for a day of exploration.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is always within reach at Rock Lake. The Booth’s Rock Trail is a local favorite, offering a challenging hike with a rewarding lookout over the surrounding lakes. History enthusiasts can explore the nearby ruins of the Barclay Estate or visit the Algonquin Visitor Centre for educational exhibits. Paddling is perhaps the most popular activity, as the lake provides direct access to the Madawaska River system and several backcountry portage routes.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for active outdoor enthusiasts who value natural beauty over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for RVers who enjoy paddling, hiking, and wildlife photography. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat away from the bustle of the more crowded park entrances, Rock Lake offers the quiet atmosphere needed to reconnect with the environment and enjoy the simplicity of the great outdoors.

This campground it great. The lake is great to canoe on and there is also easy access to a nice river to canoe down. If you have a fishing boat there is also easy access to a doc. Its far enough away form the highway so its nice and quiet. Have been going here every year since birth and am always looking forward to my next visit.

There's a short channel before reaching the lake itself. Gorgeous paddle, my husband and I took our pack boats out. Water was choppy but manageable. We went for a day paddle, plenty of campsites just along Rock Lake's shores but we could have gone much further to the other lakes if we had had the time! We were out for a few hours round trip enjoying the sights.

Very easy to access. Except people park their cars randomly. Some people use two space for the 1 car. People is very polite in terms of launching. In general the campsites we visited are clean. People picked up left over before they left. It is good.

Awesome little lake! Good boat ramp, yes it's a little busy but its an amazing lake so much to look at , we didn't catch any fish but we were told that the lake has good fishing.

Very nice and well maintained ramp to lunch, plenty of parking. The camps sites are awesome, there are a few cottages on the lake hence a bit more traffic (comparing to other places I've been), but overall is a great lake many things to do. Would definitely reccomend and come back.
