Allegany/Quaker Area
Overview
Allegany State Park - Quaker Area offers a serene retreat within New York’s largest state park. Known for its lush landscapes and rugged beauty, this area provides a quintessential camping experience. Unlike its busier counterpart, the Red House area, Quaker is often favored by those seeking a deeper connection with nature. The park is a haven for RVers who appreciate the simplicity of mature forests and the tranquility of a glacial valley.
Location & Surroundings
Located just south of Salamanca, NY, the Quaker Area is defined by its dramatic rolling hills and dense hardwoods. The park is conveniently accessible from I-86, yet it feels worlds away from the hustle of city life. The landscape is dominated by the sparkling Quaker Lake and the winding streams that feed into it. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by the Allegheny Plateau, offering a scenic backdrop for every campsite.
Amenities & Park Features
The RV accommodations in the Quaker Area vary, with several loops offering electric hookups and spacious sites suitable for various rig sizes. Quaker Lake serves as a central hub for activity, and the park provides several essential services:
- Access to Quaker Lake for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating.
- A variety of campsites featuring electric hookups and modern bathhouses.
- The historic Quaker General Store and a park museum for education and supplies.
Dump stations and potable water are available to ensure a comfortable stay for self-contained RVs within these wooded camping loops.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, with miles of hiking and biking trails like the Mount Tuscarora Fire Tower trail. Fishing for trout or bass in the lake is a popular pastime for many visitors throughout the season. Just outside the park, the city of Salamanca offers cultural insights at the Seneca Iroquois National Museum. For a change of pace, the nearby town of Ellicottville provides unique shopping and dining experiences within a short drive of the park gates.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and families who prefer a rustic, forest-based environment over a resort-style RV park. It is a perfect fit for travelers looking to disconnect and enjoy activities like birdwatching, kayaking, or evening campfires. Because of the spacious layouts and natural shade, it is also a great choice for long-term road trippers seeking a peaceful home base while exploring the natural wonders of Western New York.

Allegany State Park is beautiful year round. My favorite is in fall with all the beautiful fall foliage. They now have nice extra wide bike/walking paths going from one side of Quaker Lake to the other side of the campground is awesome. The hiking trails are amazing too. It's beautiful and peaceful, unplugging from all the electronics and spending time in nature.

Camped at Cain Hollow in our camper. There are many cabins available as well. Clean hot showers and campsites. Everyone was very respectful during quiet hours. We will be back

I've been coming here for all 38 years of my life, and so have my folks. We've seen this park change a lot. Honestly, it just keeps getting better every year. I really dig the new bath houses, and the bear situation is way better, though I kinda miss seeing a surprise bear every now and then. Anyway, I love this place, and I always will.

It is an absolutely beautiful place to go and visit. I have been coming here with my family for over 20 years. Usually, we stay in the Quaker area, but occasionally, we will spend a couple of nights in Red House. There are plenty of trails to walk and explore. Some short and sweet, then others that are 5 plus miles stretching through the woods. They also have some that are alongside the roads, allowing you to see other camping trails and cabins without going through the woods. Where you can ride bikes, scooters, roller blades, etc. In the spring and summer. Or even use snow mobiles in the winter. Beautiful lakes for fishing where you can catch Trout, Northern Pike, and other fish. You can see black bears, deer, fox, Turkey, snakes, chipmunks, and all sorts of birds as you walk trails or drive around to see different sights. We have even seen Bobcats before, but very rare. It's also dog friendly. There are plenty of cabins to choose from. Some offer clean bathrooms with showering areas and a place to wash dishes. Worst case, you can simply walk or drive to one. They have non electric with wood burning stove & electric with gas to provide heat and I believe all have ovens and a fridge. Beautiful sights, parks you can take the kids to, a beach that is open seasonally, and a convenience store that is open except during the off-season. You can get wood delivered to your cabin typically if you don't feel like getting it yourself. My family, friends, and I have always enjoyed ourselves here. They have the Seneca Casino about 40 minutes away in Salamanca with a supermarket, dispensaries, and other things of that sort if you need to get away from nature and take a break. However, there is also a gas station upon entering the park in Quaker area that is usually open. It is an awesome place to visit and go enjoy with fun activities to enjoy for everybody. I posted some pics for sights but did not include many good ones as well as videos I have to exclude my family in them. But, if you're ever thinking about going, I highly recommend it.
