Allegheny/Red Bridge Recreation Area

Overview

Red Bridge Recreation Area serves as a premier gateway to the Allegheny National Forest in northwestern Pennsylvania. Situated along the eastern bank of the Kinzua Bay, this destination offers a tranquil retreat for RVers looking to immerse themselves in nature. The park balances a rustic atmosphere with essential conveniences, making it one of the most popular federal campgrounds in the region for those seeking a genuine forest experience. Whether you are arriving for a weekend of fishing or a week of relaxation, the park provides a stunning backdrop of old-growth timber and sparkling water.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a short drive from the town of Kane, PA, the park is nestled within a landscape dominated by black cherry, maple, and hemlock trees. The topography is defined by the rolling hills of the Allegheny Plateau and the expansive waters of the Allegheny Reservoir. This location provides a secluded feel where the sounds of the forest replace highway noise, offering a true escape into the Pennsylvania wilds. The area is also part of the Longhouse Scenic Byway, which is widely considered one of the most beautiful drives in the Northeast.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility features approximately 65 campsites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups to accommodate modern RVs and travel trailers. While it maintains a natural vibe, visitors have access to heated showers and flush toilets, ensuring a comfortable stay. Key features available to guests include:

  • Sanitary dump station and potable water access
  • Boat launch located conveniently nearby
  • Fire rings and picnic tables at every site

Each site is intentionally spaced to provide a sense of privacy amidst the dense forest canopy, allowing campers to truly disconnect from the digital world.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits just outside the campground at the iconic Kinzua Bridge State Park, where visitors can walk across the historic skywalk for breathtaking valley views. Boating and fishing on the Kinzua Bay are primary draws, while hikers can explore sections of the North Country National Scenic Trail or visit the nearby Rimrock Overlook for sweeping vistas of the reservoir. For a taste of local culture, the nearby town of Kane offers unique distilleries, artisan shops, and local dining options that reflect the charm of the region.

Who This Park Is Best For

This recreation area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize natural beauty over resort-style luxuries like swimming pools or clubhouses. It is a perfect fit for boaters and anglers who want easy water access, as well as families looking for a quiet home base while exploring the forest. If you prefer wooded privacy and scenic water views, Red Bridge provides the quintessential Allegheny camping experience for those who enjoy a slower pace of life in the great outdoors.

Adorable little campground in Allegheny Nat'l Forest. Easy water & bathroom access, variable site sizes for tents or RVs. And a store nearby w all lots of camping supplies. We had a wonderful time even in the rain.

The campground was beautiful, and there were lots of fall colors and wildlife in the area. The waterfront area was very peaceful to sit at. Only big complaint was the showers kind of suck here

Thoroughly enjoyed multiple stays at Red Bridge campground. It's clean, has access to the Allegheny River and overall a beautiful campground.

Stayed here about a year ago, was quiet and beautiful. No issues would love to come back here. We went to cherry springs before and honestly the sky view here is almost as good. Restrooms were clean and site was in good condition.

I stayed Tuesday until Friday, and it was very peaceful! The sites are spacious and fairly private. Everything was tidy.
