Anchor River SRA

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Anchor River State Recreation Area offers a classic Alaskan wilderness experience situated directly along the banks of the scenic Anchor River. This park provides a rugged, natural setting where travelers can reconnect with the outdoors. It is primarily a destination for those who prefer an authentic, back-to-basics camping atmosphere. The park is renowned for its stunning riverfront access and serves as a quiet refuge for RVers who value tranquility and direct contact with the coastal landscape over manicured resort-style amenities.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Anchor Point, AK, this park sits at the westernmost point of the North American highway system. The surroundings are defined by dramatic coastal vistas and the confluence of the river and the Cook Inlet. Visitors often witness spectacular sunset views over the water, with glimpses of nearby volcanoes on clear days. The area is defined by its dramatic tides and raw, natural beauty that defines the Kenai Peninsula experience for many visiting travelers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed for dry camping, meaning it does not offer utility hookups for RVs. Visitors will find primitive campsites that accommodate various vehicle sizes, along with vault toilets and picnic areas. The grounds are carefully maintained to preserve the natural vegetation, providing a sense of privacy between sites. Guests should plan to be self-sufficient regarding water and power, as the focus here remains firmly on the unspoiled environment rather than commercial convenience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw for those visiting this recreation area, especially during the peak silver and king salmon runs. The river banks are a hub for anglers looking to test their skills in a world-class setting. Beyond fishing, the area is ideal for beachcombing along the shore and spotting eagles or other local wildlife. The surrounding region also provides easy access to local shops and cafes in the small community of Anchor Point.

Who This Park Is Best For

This state recreation area is perfect for independent travelers and anglers who prioritize proximity to fishing waters over modern conveniences. It is an ideal choice for those driving self-contained RVs who enjoy scenic dispersed-style camping. If you are seeking a quiet, peaceful location to park your rig while exploring the wilder side of the Kenai Peninsula, Anchor River provides the authentic Alaskan basecamp you need for your next northern road trip adventure.

This place is amazing the midnight sunsets, the Bald Eagles everywhere, the whale sighting and the seals. Just a beautiful place to stay.

Excellent campground. Fairly private sites. Lots of bald eagles around. If you're lucky you can watch a tractor do a boat launch.

We drove out so we could say we've been to the westernmost drivable place. Nice park and views.

Our home backyard Anchor point boat launch. Great location, where the river neets the ocean. Loads of eagles and eager tourists enjoying great beaches and amazing views. Keep our beaches clean pls
