Was so excited for our family camping trip to Chambers Lake, and ready to enjoy paddle boarding with the grandkids. Alas, we arrived on Wednesday, July 16th only to find the lake was being drained for work on the dam. Understand that maintenance needs to be done, but to have no notice about the condition of the lake on the campground website is unconscionable. Shame on you, US Forest Service, for not notifying anyone about this, including Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), who had shown up with a boat to do a fish study. We ended up shortening our camping trip from 5 nights to 2.

As of July 13th 2025, our last day camping there, the reservoir was half empty. Just a short line of the lake where you can start your paddle board or kayak. If you have a boat, you might not be able to get it into water. Fishing was still good. Bring extra bug spray, mosquitoes and flies are insane this season because of low water. Was very windy too every day.

What a great campground! Sites are extremely well- maintained, roomy, and offer a feeling of privacy. Restrooms are numerous and clean. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful.

The lake is gorgeous. The restrooms clean, however the tent sites are without any drainage which means if it rains tent sleepers beware. Our tent site turned into a literal lake. A pvc pipe drain would work miracles.

I went camping here with a friend's family and the experience was great. The nearby trails were fun to walk along and were great for any skill level. There was plenty of firewood around and they had fire pits and a grill. Unfortunately it rained starting at 7 PM when we visited but overall I had a great time. I would definitely go again.

I enjoyed my camping up at chambers lake recently. There's still salvage from the Cameron Peak Fire and trail hiking was a challenge. But I was very happy to see that there were many baby trees that are growing and thriving. I took my kayak out on the lake and it was a beautiful scene and nice paddle out. The area was nice and the campsite was nice. I would consider again on coming back.

We stayed in site number two. I thought it was a great spot with enough shade on the picnic table and camper spot during the day but still had enough sun for our solar panels. The only spots I would avoid in the loop that we were in are five, six and seven because the trees are dead there. We enjoyed being very close to the boat ramp. The water was a great temperature and was very clear. This was a fun place to kayak with the kids because it was protected from the wind. The Cameron peak wildfire from 2020 burned the hillside nearby but there are still a lot of green pine trees in the campground. The other loops’ sites were really cool (more of an “in the forest” kind of feel.) But we thought the convenience of being near the boat ramp was more valuable.

Campground is nice. Lots of trees and shade. Boat dock and playground. Excellent lake to kayak on. Saw an eagle snatch a fish out of the lake not 30 feet in front of us. Then paddled over to watch it eat the fish from the treetop!♡♡ Eat a real meal just down the mountain at Rustic / Glen Echo Resort. Lots of dogs so don't bring yours if he's not friendly. Nice people. Saw some deer not 20 feet from our campsite in the trees. Fire went through here in 2019. Didn't hurt the Campground but slopes along lake still show the burnt trees. Perfect Colorado experience.

Nice huge campground on the lake. Short drive to State Forest State Park. Walk-in Site 50 had great views but gets more wind from that elevated position. The site is uphill from the dedicated parking space. You’ll get a good workout if you have a lot of stuff. Our dome tent was fine but chose not to deploy the canopy. Campground has a decent wooden playground for the kiddos. Water was low when we went in early August but we still enjoyed our time.

Nice campground with Pit toilets. Boat ramp. The good: Saw a moose, a dear, The bad: lots of beetle kill trees and fires scared the area. Some hiking trails are closed due to the fire damage.
