Arkansas River - COE/Vine Prairie
Overview
Located on the banks of the mighty Arkansas River, Vine Prairie Park is a hidden gem managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This park offers a serene environment for travelers who appreciate the rhythmic flow of river traffic and the calls of local waterfowl. Unlike bustling commercial resorts, this facility focuses on providing a peaceful waterfront experience where nature takes center stage. It serves as a vital recreation point for those exploring the Arkansas River Valley, blending scenic beauty with functional camping facilities.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Mulberry, Arkansas, the park sits just upstream from the James W. Trimble Lock and Dam. The surrounding landscape is characterized by wide river views and lush, green lowlands typical of the region. Its proximity to Interstate 40 makes it an accessible stop for cross-country travelers, yet it remains far enough removed from the highway to maintain a quiet atmosphere. The riverfront setting provides a unique vantage point for watching barges navigate the lock system.
Amenities & Park Features
Vine Prairie Park provides well-maintained facilities designed for comfortable outdoor living. The campground features RV sites with electric and water hookups, accommodating various rig sizes. Visitors have access to essential services, including a convenient dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets. For those traveling with watercraft, the park includes a sturdy boat ramp and a courtesy dock. Families often enjoy the on-site playground and the spacious picnic shelters, which are perfect for group gatherings by the water.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw here is the exceptional fishing for catfish, crappie, and bass. Boaters can spend hours exploring the vast stretches of the Arkansas River. A short drive away, the Mulberry River offers some of the best whitewater kayaking and canoeing in the state during the spring. For those interested in history and urban amenities, the city of Fort Smith is nearby, offering museums and historic sites. Hikers can also venture into the Ozark National Forest for rugged trails and mountain vistas.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for anglers and boating enthusiasts who want direct access to the water. It is also a fantastic choice for budget-conscious RVers who prefer the reliability and natural charm of COE campgrounds over high-priced resorts. If you are a traveler looking for a quiet, scenic spot to rest while heading through Arkansas, or a family seeking a simple weekend of fishing and fresh air, Vine Prairie Park fits the bill perfectly.

Me and my family had a great time here, the managers Rick and Marilyn were really nice and Rick came around almost everyday to see if we needed anything or if we needed help with anything. Really nice and peaceful park, very clean, well taken care of. We will be coming back here very soon.

Its a park!. Be careful in your boat because there's lots of shallow spots you must stay in the channel. I'm in a 14 foot flatbottom with a 20hp Yamaha and i had issues getting outta some places

Could use some street lights for night fishing. On duty enforcement officer for those who dont get the parking permit. Clear some of the tree limbs and brush for better fishing.
