Asessippi Park
Overview
Nestled within the picturesque Shellmouth Valley, Asessippi Provincial Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. This destination is defined by the expansive Lake Shellmouth, a man-made reservoir created by the Shellmouth Dam. Visitors often comment on the striking contrast between the rolling prairies and the deep, wooded valley. It serves as a premier destination for those seeking a tranquil escape into the Manitoba parklands while enjoying a sense of historical heritage and community.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated approximately 20 kilometers south of Roblin, MB, in the heart of the Assiniboine Valley. The landscape is characterized by steep valley walls and lush vegetation that provides a home for various wildlife, including deer and numerous bird species. Because it sits at the confluence of the Shell and Assiniboine Rivers, the geography creates a microclimate that feels distinct from the surrounding flatlands, offering scenic valley vistas that are perfect for photography and nature observation.

RV travelers will find well-maintained campsites that include options for 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups. The park provides several modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay for visitors of all ages:
- Clean washrooms and modern hot showers
- A convenient sani-dump station for motorhomes and trailers
- A large sandy beach and multiple playgrounds for children
- A dedicated boat launch and fish cleaning station
These features make it a reliable and well-equipped choice for those traveling in larger rigs who still want a connection to the outdoors.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw here, with Lake Shellmouth renowned for its walleye and northern pike. Hikers can explore the Ancient Valley Trail, which offers insight into the region's glacial history and the remnants of the old Asessippi townsite. Just a short drive away, history enthusiasts can visit the Inglis Grain Elevators, a National Historic Site of Canada. During the summer, the park’s disc golf course provides unique recreation, while the town of Roblin offers essential services and local hospitality.

We got to explore three trails and spent some time at the concession and mini-golf, which were great. Nice playground by the concession as well. Two downsides: the beach isn’t great, and I don’t think many people swim there because the water is gross and has some runoff slime if some kind. Secondly, the park definitely needs some updates and care in places, and it seems funding for staff, etc. is short (which is the province’s doing) Nice park, definitely worth a visit though.

Great camping sites, very private and large amount of space for large camper and more. Bit of a walk to park store, beach or dock. Take bikes. Decent trail system cut thru bushes everywhere. Store sold hot, cold food, ice cream snacks, minor fishing tackle, worms and frozen minnows. Free firewood which was great. Bears, deer, fishing, campsite gophers and squirels. Overall an above average park to enjoy.

Yurt was fun and I hear that the fishing is amazing but the beach is a disaster. Looked like there had been a spill that was contaminating the water and the beach was gravel... Not recommended. The camping space would be nice for families who like to fish, hike, or play disc golf.

Awesome! My family (kids ages 8-10) had a blast mountain biking down the asessippi ski resort hills. If you or your kids have any interest in mountain biking....this is definitely worth visiting. We will be coming back soon.

A good place to bring your family for a day trip or a few days. Most of the hiking trails were not maintained well. The grass was not cut and to long to make it enjoyable. Which prevented me from giving it 5 stars. Awesome store with good food and friendly staff. Good fishing and beautiful area to explore. Thumbs up folks!
