Audie Lake Park

Overview

Audie Lake Park offers a quiet escape within the expansive Rusk County Forest. This county-managed campground provides a rustic setting that contrasts sharply with busier commercial resorts. It serves as an ideal base for those looking to immerse themselves in the Northwoods landscape. Visitors often choose this location for its peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity to disconnect from daily stressors while enjoying the sounds of local wildlife. It is a hidden gem for travelers who value the simplicity of nature over the frills of modern developments.

Location & Surroundings

Situated a short drive from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, the park is nestled among rolling hills and dense timber. The surrounding terrain is part of the unique Blue Hills region, known for its ancient geological formations and vibrant autumn colors. The park sits directly on the shoreline of Audie Lake, a 66-acre body of water that remains largely undeveloped. This proximity to the water provides campers with stunning views and immediate access to one of the most tranquil spots in the region.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features approximately 24 sites designed to accommodate various rig sizes. While the experience is intentionally rustic, several park features ensure a comfortable stay:

  • Electric hookups are available at many sites to provide basic modern convenience.
  • A concrete boat launch is located within the park, making it easy to get onto the water for a morning paddle.
  • Hand-pumped water and vault toilets are maintained for guest use throughout the season.

Each individual site includes a fire ring and a sturdy picnic table, encouraging traditional campfire evenings under the stars. The park is designed to highlight the natural landscape rather than distracting from it.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do, from fishing for largemouth bass and panfish to exploring the nearby sections of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The Blue Hills Felsenmeer is a short trip away, offering a unique look at glacial rock deposits that look like a sea of stones. For those needing a touch of civilization, the city of Rice Lake is easily accessible, offering local breweries, charming shops, and grocery stores for restocking supplies before heading back into the woods.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for the traditional RVer who values nature and solitude over luxury resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for birdwatchers, anglers, and hikers who want to spend their days outdoors and their nights in a quiet, dark-sky environment. If you prefer self-contained camping and the charm of small-lake fishing, Audie Lake Park provides the authentic Wisconsin Northwoods experience you are seeking.

Beautiful and affordable campground, $30/night for electric and water hookup. Sites are spacious and well-maintained. Good options for hiking and kayaking/fishing, and several towns nearby for groceries and supplies. My only gripe is the gravel pad for the camper itself (Site 6). Our site was so far off level it took 30 leveling blocks digging small holes for the low side tires to get level. The site is on a very steep hill, which was not made clear on the reservation site.

Really nice little campground. Check the pics! $23 a night all the sites have electric available but have a long extension cord. Hiking trails and atv trails through the woods everywhere.
