Ausable Chasm Campground

Overview

Ausable Chasm Campground offers a gateway to one of New York’s oldest and most iconic natural wonders. Situated just steps from the breathtaking gorge known as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, this park provides a blend of rustic charm and modern convenience. It serves as an ideal basecamp for those wanting to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Champlain Valley while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of a forested retreat.

Location & Surroundings

The park is nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains region, specifically in Keeseville, New York. It is conveniently located off Route 9, making it easily accessible for travelers coming from the Northway. The surroundings are defined by towering pines, the rushing waters of the Ausable River, and the unique sandstone cliffs that characterize this prehistoric geological formation, providing a cool and shaded environment for campers.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers can choose from a variety of sites, including full hookup options and spacious pull-thrus designed to accommodate larger rigs. On-site facilities include a refreshing swimming pool, a disc golf course, and multiple mountain biking trails that wind through the property. The park also provides essential comforts such as clean shower houses, laundry facilities, and a camp store stocked with firewood and basic supplies to ensure a comfortable stay in the wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the Ausable Chasm itself, where guests can enjoy guided rafting trips, tubing, and the Adventure Trail via ferrata. Beyond the chasm, visitors can take a short drive to the shores of Lake Champlain or catch a ferry to Burlington, Vermont. The surrounding area is rich with historical sites, local apple orchards, and miles of hiking paths that lead to stunning vistas of the High Peaks and the valley below.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is a perfect fit for outdoor enthusiasts and families who want to be immersed in nature without sacrificing essential amenities. It appeals to adventure seekers looking for easy access to world-class hiking and water activities. We have stayed here the last weekend they are open in October, the last two years. This is my kids favorite campground. They have a basement with pool, and ping pong. A nice playground for the younger kids. Miles and miles of trails for every ability. We like to stay this weekend, because of the Halloween festivities they do! They have a newly renovated pool during warmer months! The staff is always happy and helpful.

This was our first time staying at the Ausable Chasm campground and it was a wonderful experience. The grounds were very well cared for, bathrooms and laundry rooms extremely clean, the staff was very friendly, the pool was so nice (and heated!) We felt safe letting our kids (age 7) ride around on their bicycles as the trees weren't too thick and the roads were free of debris. We stayed in a cabin (#1) which was super cute. Just enough room for the double bed, twin bunk beds and a small desk/chair (with drawers for storage!) and a cute little front porch. The playground was fun and they had old school games in the clean basement of the club house (ping pong, pool, foosball...) Just a really great place. And the proximity to the chasm is unbeatable - you can totally walk there! Highly recommend and we hope to return some day!

We camped with our RV for five nights at this excellent campground. The sites are spacious and well maintained. The bathroom and shower facilities were impeccably serviced and were always clean, even over the weekend when the campground was more full. The staff are friendly and super helpful. We did laundry, and like everything else, it was clean and well maintained. One of the best parts for us was all the hiking/mountain biking trails right on the property. They’re well managed and marked, spanning all difficulty levels. Lastly, if you’re in interested in exploring the chasm, you get a discount on tickets. Would stay here again without hesitation.

We have visited this campground 2x with our camper van. Once last September 2024, and in July 2025. Both times we went during the week and it was super quiet. The reception is super friendly. They will carry wood to your campground, they offer you a discount at the Chasm, and on the weekend they have fresh donuts for sale ;). The showers and washrooms are very clean. The boys (6&8) drove their bikes for hours. There are some hiking trails out back, and you can also easily walk to the Chasm and take the boat tour. I grew up spending weekends at this campground when it was a KOA. It was so fund to go back. Not much has changed, except the sign out front, the pool is renovated, and very clean, and there are now washrooms at the back end of the campground! They have also added a few cottages to rent. There is a game room at the main building in the basement (which was always there). There is a cute treasure hunt that the children can do while walking the grounds. All in all, a great experience.

Our family with two kids 2 & 8 year enjoy their first camping in a cabin. Cabin is cosy and spacious for 4. The mattress was firm to our liking with waterproof cover. A bunk and full beds a desk and two chairs. Porch is ample to accommodate 6 and dry. Separation between cabins is very good. The warm showers and clean toilets are clean and comfortable. Laundry room is well priced. $1.50 per wash or dry.
