After dropping our son off for university at ST. FX, my husband and I planned a four night trip to Cape Breton. We rented an RV from RVZY that was dropped off at our site at Avoca Birches. It was an easy drive from Antigonish to Avoca Birches. We were greeted by the owners, Sam and Nancy upon arrival who were both super friendly and amazing hosts! The location is perfect for exploring Cape Breton. We toured the Cabot Trail, golfed and went on a kayak tour. The campsite itself it well laid out, spacious and well manicured. The beach is a short walk and is beautiful and a relaxing spot . Love the touch of an outhouse near the beach and also love the lighthouse outhouse on site! Each site has an iron fire pit that would be great to use when the burn ban is over! One of the best campgrounds we have stayed in!

We spent 3 nights at this campground in September 2025. The sites are huge and well spaced between each others. The custom campfire pit are really nice with a grill on top for cooking. We could not use it as there was a fire ban, but thought they are a really nice addition. Right on the Cabot Trail. The grounds are gorgeous and well taken care of, lots of flower pots and beds around the campground. The bathrooms and showers are spotless and well stocked. The garbages are super clean as well. There are nice colorful Adirondack chairs all around the campground to relax and on the beach front on a nice deck, perfect to sit and relax and watch the beach. Gorgeous sunrise. The beach has a lot of rocks, but if you are lucky, when the tide is low, there is nice sand and you can walk on the beach. The owners are really nice and helpful. They are dog friendly and offer a water dish for dogs near the beach and poop bags. They even have beach chairs near the beach to use for clients, which is a really nice thought! Clean Portable toilet near the beach. Nice little trail in the woods leading to the beach. The only things missing I would say is a laundry facility and it would be nice if they would sell foods such as ice cream treats, candies, chips and usual camping necessities (pantry food, milk, bacon, etc…). We would go back in a heartbeat! When we were there, it was off season so the campground was really not busy and quiet. We loved it! :)

Recently stayed five nights at this wonderful campground. The sites were quite spacious and private. The grounds were thoughtfully designed and well maintained. The owners were friendly and quite helpful. We were warned when we arrived that we wouldn't want to leave the beach, which was a short walk down a well maintained path, and it was very true. The beach area was spectacular and quiet. When we did manage to leave the beach we found plenty of activities in the area to keep us occupied, like fishing, mussel collecting, whale watching and many more. I would highly recommend this campground

Clean campground, full services, excellent water pressure, excellent power supply... our AC ran all day long with no issues. Barely heard the highway beside us. Full service sites don't have any trees for privacy... however the non-serviced sites are in the trees. One of the best campgrounds we've used in our Maritimes holiday. July/August 2025

We had a lovely stay at avoca birches! Open wooded sites, cleanest campground washrooms I’ve ever seen! The beach is about a 7 min walk and so worth it! Clean beach and almost no one on it! They have a cute deck with Adirondack chairs, and beach/camping chairs you can borrow on the beach!

A hidden gem at the base of the Highlands in Cape Breton. The gorgeous woodwork planters at the entrance of this campground are bound to catch your attention. You are next greeted with a smile by the hardworking staff :) But the uniqueness stands out when you drive down to your camp site included with an "Avoca Birches" fire pit and a seclusion of trees- privacy is a given here. The picnic tables are beautifully crafted and some guests have the opportunity to stay along the river to complete the relaxing atmosphere. Also included, a private path minutes away from a sandy beach. A lot of local pride went into the build here and is such a welcoming place to stay- highly recommend!

Completely new and beautifully arranged campground. Perfect location for doing the Cabot Trail. Very friendly and helpful owners (they even fixed some of our RV equipment). Highly recommended! 😊
