Banff/Lake Louise-Trailer Park
Overview
The Banff/Lake Louise-Trailer Park offers a unique opportunity to camp in the heart of Canada's first national park. Operated by Parks Canada, this campground is a dedicated space for recreational vehicles, providing a blend of natural immersion and essential comforts. Situated near the famous turquoise waters of Lake Louise, the park is known for its wooded sites and proximity to some of the most iconic landscapes in the Canadian Rockies. It serves as a reliable base camp for travelers exploring the high-altitude wonders of Alberta.
Location & Surroundings
Located just outside the village of Lake Louise, the park is surrounded by towering peaks and thick subalpine forest. The Bow River flows nearby, offering a serene soundtrack to your stay. While the campground feels secluded, it is conveniently close to the village center, where visitors can find basic groceries and dining. The surrounding area is part of a protected wilderness, meaning visitors often share the landscape with local wildlife, including elk and bears, all while enjoying panoramic mountain views from their campsites.
Amenities & Park Features
As a national park facility, the amenities focus on utility and conservation. The park features electrical hookups at most sites, accommodating various RV sizes, though there are no individual water or sewer connections. Instead, a central sani-dump and water filling station are available for guest use. One of the most distinctive features is the electric fence surrounding the perimeter, designed to keep large wildlife out and campers safe. Modern washrooms with hot showers and flush toilets provide a touch of comfort after a long day of hiking.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw of this location is its proximity to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. These world-famous glacial lakes are just a short drive or shuttle ride away, offering world-class photography and canoeing. Hikers can access the Plain of Six Glaciers trail or venture up to the historic tea houses. Additionally, the park serves as the southern gateway to the Icefields Parkway, a scenic drive that leads toward Jasper, featuring spectacular glaciers and waterfalls at every turn.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize location and nature over resort-style amenities. It is a perfect fit for those seeking a base camp for adventure, as the layout and services are designed for travelers who plan to spend their days exploring the national park. If you appreciate a quiet, rustic atmosphere and want to be as close as possible to the gems of the Rockies, this well-maintained facility offers an authentic mountain experience.

Lovely Campground but only 1 shower block and the hot shower water was broken for days, not really good enough for a place this size and people staying here. Other than than, great place to stay despite the trains honking!!

Lake Louise Campground is amazing! Super safe with the electric fence around the campground, so no worries about wildlife at night. Sites are clean, with all the hookups you need, and there are nice programs for campers. Best part—it’s really close to Lake Louise itself. Perfect spot to stay in Banff!

Beautiful site, beautiful space, so lucky. Love how close it is to town- i love parks canada and the people who work for them- its all about the animals and so it should be ❤️❤️ don’t walk across the bridge bear foot like idiot me 🤣🤣 i like being zapped it’s also electrified. Use the gate follow the rules in the national park. Also maybe if you have a big truck thats lights turn on when you open the doors- point it into your own campsite it was very vibe killing to have a neighbour like that.

Beautiful campsite with fantastic views! We chose a site close to the showers and bathrooms which were clean. Sites had plenty of space for two 4 person tents. Free firewood and a communal cooking shelter were great too. We saw a bear outside the fence which was great!

Absolutely gorgeous. Great facilities including showers, washrooms, sinks for washing dishes, and a common area covered cooking station. Great hiking trails up to Lake Louise. Highly recommended.
