Banff/Two Jack Main
Overview
Two Jack Main Campground provides a classic wilderness experience within the heart of Banff National Park. Nestled among lodgepole pines, this large, rustic facility offers travelers a chance to disconnect from the modern world and immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Unlike high-density commercial resorts, this park focuses on a serene woodland atmosphere where the sound of the wind through the trees replaces the hum of highway traffic. It serves as an essential base for those wanting to experience the park’s natural splendor without the distractions of urban life.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on the scenic Lake Minnewanka Loop, the park is just a short drive from the bustling townsite of Banff. The surrounding landscape is characterized by towering peaks and dense forests, offering frequent sightings of local wildlife like elk and bighorn sheep. Its proximity to Two Jack Lake allows for easy access to stunning waterfront views and sunrise photography opportunities. The high-altitude setting provides crisp mountain air and a distinct sub-alpine feel that defines the quintessential Alberta camping trip.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional national park site, Two Jack Main offers unserviced sites, meaning there are no power, water, or sewer hookups at individual stalls. However, the park is well-equipped with essential comforts, including flush toilets and treated water taps located throughout the loops. Visitors can make use of sheltered picnic areas and communal kitchen buildings, which are perfect for preparing meals during inclement weather. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring, though a fire permit is required to burn wood provided by the park.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves perfectly positioned to explore the Lake Minnewanka area, famous for boat tours, hiking trails, and mountain biking. Just down the road, Two Jack Lake is a popular spot for paddleboarding, kayaking, or a chilly mountain swim. For those seeking a bit of culture or a hot meal, the Banff Townsite is only about 15 minutes away, offering world-class dining, museums, and the historic Banff Springs Hotel. Hiking trails like C-Level Cirque offer challenging climbs and rewarding views of the valley below.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for self-contained RVers and tent campers who prioritize privacy and nature over luxury amenities. Because the sites are tucked into the forest, it appeals most to those who enjoy a quiet, rustic pace and are prepared for dry camping. It is particularly suited for photographers and nature lovers who want to be the first ones at the lakefront for the morning light.

Nice secluded campground. Lots of trees. Restrooms need updating and different colored bulbs. Tons of bugs on the sinks. Squeaky, squeaky door can be heard through 3 loops. No hookups but water and dump station at the entrance. Nice rustic campground overall.

I visited Banff with my friends and stayed at Two Jack Main Campground. We have to build our own tent and stay in it. We brought our stove, utensils and food. They provide public bathrooms between 6 and 10 tents, but they have no shower facilities in them. For the bath, we had to go to the hot springs, so if you want a shower facility, I would recommend you to book your campsite in Two Jack Lake campground. At last, the experience was so unique and good to stay in the jungle and cook our own food and sleep in the tent on a very cold night. If you are planning to go to Banff and have a tight budget, I would highly recommend you to book was campsite in Two Jack Main or Two Jake Lake. You just need to carry your own tent, food items, etc you want, because you will not find any shops near there. You will need to go to the main city to buy things.

Do you enjoy camping in a subdivision where it sounds like your neighbour is in bed with you? Do you like campers beside you having a direct view of your campsite all day/night long with no tree coverage and privacy? Do you like basically no amenities, no shower, playground or anything to see or do for your stay? Do you want to have to drive somewhere to pay for a shower (where!?) because the campsite doesn’t have basic amenities? For any price, this campground is horrible. The fact that we paid over $100 to stay here not shower or be able to sleep is insane to me. But, welcome to Alberta I guess!

Super scenic grounds with a nice view of the mountains!! We saw a lot of wildlife around too, notably heaps of Elk. Lots of noise coming from nearby sites when we were there last week though, and seemed to be a LOT of campsites that had far too many people and excess noise outside of quiet hours so I don't think it's patrolled or policed close enough. Otherwise a dishwashing station and decent toilets. And great location

The forest the campsite is in is actually beautiful. If you are there around 5-6 pm and the weather is good in summer it is nice to sit out (not too many mosquitoes) and have dinner at the benches they provide. For every camp site group there are flush toilets, hot water in the sinks and even a semi closed dining area where you can also wash your utensils. There are no hot showers (which I don’t get because they have sewage and hot water access) and you are also not allowed to use the Lake Campsite’s hot showers. The staff is helpful and friendly.
