Barkley Lake - COE/Hurricane Creek Campground
Overview
Hurricane Creek Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offers a serene lakeside escape on the eastern shores of Lake Barkley. Nestled within the rolling hills of western Kentucky, this facility provides a peaceful environment where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the waterfront. It serves as a gateway to extensive outdoor recreation, offering a quiet and affordable alternative to busier commercial resorts while maintaining the high maintenance standards expected of the COE.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside Eddyville, KY, the park is defined by its incredible proximity to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The local landscape is a lush mix of dense hardwood forests and expansive shoreline, providing ample shade and scenic vistas throughout the seasons. Because the campground is located on a gentle peninsula, many campsites offer unobstructed water views, allowing guests to enjoy the reflection of the sunrise over the lake right from their RV doorstep.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features well-spaced sites primarily equipped with 30 and 50-amp electric hookups and sturdy gravel pads. On-site facilities include:
- A convenient launching ramp for easy boat access to the lake.
- A playground for families and clean shower houses with flush toilets.
- An accessible dump station and fresh water fill-up area.
These features ensure a comfortable stay for RVers while maintaining the rustic, quiet charm of a public wilderness park.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate being minutes away from world-class fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish on the lake. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Venture River Water Park for family-friendly summer fun or visit the local marinas for boat rentals. The nearby Elk & Bison Prairie offers a unique opportunity to view native Kentucky wildlife in a protected habitat, making it a primary highlight for photographers and nature lovers staying in the region.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is an ideal match for anglers and boaters who prioritize immediate access to Lake Barkley's deep waters and boat ramps. It also strongly appeals to families and solo travelers seeking a quiet, rustic atmosphere away from the distractions of modern commercial parks or high-density urban areas. Great experience. Definitely will be back. The tent spots are great! Got a really good shady one with pretty close access to the water for our kayaks. Check in was super easy too.

Nice large level sites. The roads are maintained,🚧 The main road here has just been paved. And it's really nice. And 8 in thick. That's going to last a good while.👍🏻 The sites are updated with new wood beams. Each site has a nice new picnic table as well as a separate smaller table which I'm guessing is for cleaning fish 🤔 This is one of the first COE parks I've been to that has water 💦 on each site. There is a nice mix of back in and pull through sites. All of them have 30 and 50 amp service⚡ There is a cell phone tower right next to this property but it does not have my carrier on it, T-Mobile. I had to drive 15 miles one way each day to get service📶

Hidden gem an easy drive from Nashville. We stayed on site 13, pretty level and long enough for our 30' 5th wheel. Some sites need to be reworked but most are quite nice. Can't wait to go back.

Currently on a cross-country road trip and this has been the best good-value campsite I have stayed at, so far. The campsites are nice and large with 4 electrical outlets, plus there are hot showers. I highly recommend the walk-in campsites since the walk isn’t too far and the amenities are great, plus there’s a beach for swimming and a boat ramp. The restrooms also have soap!

A great place to camp. Family friendly located on lake Barkley. The camp host Jake & Jayme are super nice and always very helpful with anything that should come up. They are great in keeping an eye on the park with making multiple rounds checking on things and everyone. I hope to see them next year as well. Sites are always clean when arriving. A super quiet campground come sundown. We notice the sheriff of the county also makes rounds once or twice a day circling thru which is added peace of mind. A boat ramp for launching your boat and areas to fish from the bank. A play ground as well. Nice bathhouse with two toilets two sinks two or three showers situated in the center of the campground. More sites than not have lake view. There is a swimming beach and also tent sites as well.
