Barness Park (Glenwood City Park)
Overview
Barness Park, often referred to as the Glenwood City Park, offers a classic lakeside camping experience in the heart of Minnesota lake country. Situated directly on the northeastern shores of Lake Minnewaska, this municipal park combines the convenience of city living with the natural beauty of one of the state's largest lakes. Travelers often choose this spot for its tranquil atmosphere and its proximity to both the water and local amenities, making it a reliable choice for those exploring the west-central region of the state.
Location & Surroundings
The park is nestled within the city limits of Glenwood, MN, providing a unique lakeside setting that remains walking distance from local shops and restaurants. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the vast, clear waters of Lake Minnewaska, which is framed by rolling hills and lush greenery. The Central Lakes State Trail is also accessible nearby, offering miles of paved paths for those who want to see more of the glacial geography that defines this scenic part of Pope County.
Amenities & Park Features
While it maintains a community-focused feel, the park is well-equipped for modern RVers. Sites feature electric hookups with options for 30 or 50-amp service to accommodate different rig sizes. On-site facilities include a dump station and a freshwater fill station, ensuring self-contained travelers have everything they need for a comfortable stay. Visitors also have access to clean restrooms, hot showers, and a playground area, while each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring for evening relaxation.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is undoubtedly the direct access to the public swimming beach and boat launch on Lake Minnewaska. Anglers frequent the area for its excellent walleye and panfish fishing, while recreational boaters enjoy the expansive surface area for water sports. Just a short drive away, Mount Lookout provides panoramic views of the lake and town, offering a perfect spot for photography or a quiet sunset. The downtown area also features local boutiques and casual dining options that reflect the welcoming spirit of the community.
Who This Park Is Best For
Barness Park is ideal for families and retirees who value a balance between outdoor recreation and accessibility to town services. It is a fantastic fit for those who enjoy a community-centered vibe rather than a remote wilderness experience. Because it sits right on the water, it is especially suited for boating enthusiasts and those who want to spend their days on the sand. It serves as an excellent home base for travelers who appreciate the simplicity of a well-maintained city park with stunning waterfront views.

Amazing park, definitely one of the best in the surrounding towns. It has restrooms, a playground, baseball fields, soccer field, tennis court, disc golf, camping, hiking trails, bike trails, picnic areas, a couple of shelters for events, volleyball, it's across the street from the local beach, dog friendly. Definitely a beautiful place to visit and take the family to.

This is a nice local park, dog friendly too. First time for a hike here, was in winter, it is well marked. I had read about the Barsness Buckthorn Brigade’s work there and was very impressed with how much work they have done! The very old Cottonwood tree is a surprise to find.

Nice small town park with camping (full hook up, electric and water). Tent sites. Multiple pavilions for groups and picnic. Ball fields, soccer and volleyball. New splash pad for families. Great place to visit and stay with restaurants, breweries, and coffee in the area. Of course, the main attraction is beautiful Lake Minnewaska.

It's a nice place for little afternoon delight there is plenty of trees in case you need to take a number2 and at times there is little kiddos to give candy to, but that's of course only when I drive my panel van out to the park. But all in all it's the place to be in the early afternoon.
