Bates Beach Oceanfront & RV Park

Overview

Bates Beach Oceanfront & RV Park offers a scenic and serene escape on the eastern shores of Vancouver Island. Overlooking the Georgia Strait, this park provides a unique vantage point to witness stunning sunrises and the rugged beauty of the Coast Mountains in the distance. It is a well-established destination that captures the essence of coastal living, blending a rustic atmosphere with the necessary comforts for a truly memorable RV stay.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a short drive north of the city of Courtenay, the park is nestled in the heart of the Comox Valley. The park is positioned directly on a private pebble beach, offering guests immediate access to the water. The surrounding area is rich with wildlife, where it is common to spot bald eagles soaring above or seals bobbing in the waves. The calm waters of the Salish Sea make this a peaceful retreat from busier urban centers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a range of services designed for the modern RVer, including full hookup sites equipped with 30-amp power and water. A standout feature for many visitors is the functional boat ramp, which provides easy launch access for those looking to explore the local waters. Guests also have access to clean laundry facilities, hot showers, and picnic areas, ensuring that all practical needs are met during their oceanfront stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the beach, the Comox Valley offers diverse recreation options. Hiking and biking enthusiasts can visit the nearby Seal Bay Nature Park, which features forest loops and waterfront trails. For those interested in local culture, the shops and galleries of Courtenay and Comox are easily accessible. The region is also famous for its world-class salmon fishing, making it a premier destination for sports fishermen throughout the season.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who want a front-row seat to the ocean. It is best suited for travelers who appreciate a quiet, family-oriented environment rather than a high-traffic resort. If your travel style involves relaxing by the campfire, launching a boat for a morning catch, or exploring coastal nature trails, Bates Beach is a perfect choice for your next British Columbia road trip.

All these reviews about no guests are inaccurate and unfair. Yes, guests are limited and there are rules to be followed, but that keeps the place beautiful and special. If you don’t like it, camp elsewhere.

Been staying here for 3days and so far the amenities are nice, the service is amazing and the sites are incredible. I highly recommend this place if you want a stay away from the norm and to kick back and relax

Had a wonderful stay here. It was a great place to camp for the night. I had my little tent but saw plenty of campers and RVs. Would have loved to have stayed longer.

If you want a beautiful location and do not mind that you can’t have family or friends visit you, and you have to be lights out by 8:30 pm, this is the spot for you. The owner has these very draconian rules that no more than 3 visitors at a time (so 2 couples are out) can visit you and only on odd evenings. Meaning if you are site 6, visitors can only come on even days, if site 7, they can only come on odd days. Also, maximum of 3 hours per visit. So it does not matter is all the even sites have no visitors, your guests can’t come for dinner. We recently had friends from California come and 4 of us showed up to have a visit and dinner and because it was 4 people and not on the”allotted day”, we had to pack up and leave the campsite to go and have dinner elsewhere. All of the other sites have no visitors there. Just a very draconian rule and we will never go there again or recommend this place to any friends.

Sites facing the waterfront and sites one row back. Everyone has easy access to the cobble beach. There are full hookup sites and ones with partial hookups. At least one glamping cabin that we saw. Amazing view of the Inside Passage and mountains across the way. Watch the cruise ships go by at a distance. Close to town in case you need it. Only 30 min from Mt Washington. Excellent wifi. Will definitely come back.
