A very interesting placle...but STRONGLY recommend you take Ave.oe Saints 61 North toward Donnelson, IA..then to Farmington, IA. ...then take 81 South. The other way( as indicated)...you have 8 miles of gravel...curvy, steep up and down inclines. In some places the gravel was really thick. Very bad...I know we rode motorcycles down it..unsuspecting the conditions and one of our riders and his son on back went down Thank God it was more of a lay over than anything else.

Always a beautiful site. Peaceful with the views of the Des Moines River. Good place to learn and reflect.

Was driving and decided to take time and follow signs to the park. Glad I did. I had no idea a battle was fought so close to Iowa border. Lots of information posted on signs near road. Great place to go and walk around and see area.

Great maintained trails, easy to follow and clearly marked. Bathrooms were clean and in order. Nicely maintained shelter house perfect for events. Lots to do and family fun friendly! This is has historical sites. It was very cool to step back in time and imagine yourself standing in the center of the city as the battle raged on.

Well maintained trails, easy to follow and clearly marked. Bathrooms were clean and in order. Nicely maintained shelter house perfect for events. Lots to do and family fun friendly! This is has historical sites. There's an reenactment here once a year. Cannon on display. Old time houses. Old mill. Plenty of history markers!

We have gone here several times (from 2 hours away) to go camping. This trip was a full week long. If you go when the Des Moines river is low,you can walk across to Iowa. We took kayaks and drove people to Farmington Iowa, they had a great hour and a half float back to Battle of Athens. Since we went during the week we were the only ones there. We had a great time and the ranges are very nice.

Neat and tidy way to explore not only a piece of local history but national history as well. Roadside bathroom was not disgusting, shelter, shower house, campground, and playground were closed still but there is still so much to see and enjoy. Completely recommend, and will be suggesting my kids' classes go for field trips.
