Bay Shore Park

Overview

Bay Shore Park in New Franken, Wisconsin, offers a unique camping experience along the scenic Niagara Escarpment. This Brown County facility is well-regarded for its natural beauty and its commanding view over the waters of Green Bay. Unlike modern resorts, this park emphasizes a traditional camping atmosphere where nature takes center stage. It serves as a peaceful retreat for those looking to enjoy the Great Lakes shoreline while remaining close to urban conveniences and scenic waterfront vistas.

Location & Surroundings

The park is nestled atop a massive limestone cliff, providing visitors with breathtaking sunset views over the bay. Located just a short drive northeast of the city of Green Bay, the surroundings transition from rolling agricultural land to dense hardwood forests. The Niagara Escarpment geological formation creates a rugged landscape that is perfect for exploration, featuring rocky outcroppings and diverse flora that define this unique region of the upper Midwest.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers will find well-spaced sites equipped with water and electrical hookups, catering to both small campers and larger rigs. While there are no on-site sewer connections, a convenient dump station is provided for guest use. The park features a breakwater and boat launch, making it a prime destination for fishing and boating enthusiasts. Families often appreciate the expansive nautical-themed playground and the clean, accessible restroom and shower facilities maintained by the county staff.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, visitors are minutes away from the vibrant city of Green Bay, where they can visit Lambeau Field or the National Railroad Museum. Being positioned at the base of the Peninsula, it serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring Door County's iconic lighthouses and cherry orchards. Local trails within the park invite hikers to traverse the woods, while the shoreline is perfect for launching a kayak or spending an afternoon fishing for walleye.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for travelers who prefer a scenic, rustic environment over a commercial resort setting. It is a fantastic choice for families seeking outdoor recreation and boaters who want easy access to the water. Because of its proximity to major highways, it also suits explorers using it as a basecamp for regional sightseeing. If you value quiet evenings under a canopy of trees and stunning waterfront vistas, this park will likely fit your travel style perfectly.

Great county park. It has a very nice campground. There is a nice playground and a jumping pillow for the kids. There is also a nice beach on Lake Michigan where you can watch the sunset.

I started by driving down to the beach, it was a very popular spot for people to put in boats. From there I went up the stairs to the short loop, which had some of the coolest rock formations I’ve ever seen and great views of Lake Michigan! There was no one else on the trails. I would highly recommend this hidden gem! The campsites looked nice, but I didn’t camp here. It’s free to park, hike, and hang out at the beach. There’s a fee if you are putting a boat in the water.

Great place to camp. Hadn't been there in almost 20 years but will definitely be making it a regular destination again. Firewood was a lil steep in price for what you get but it's kinda expected. Fun times were had with fun people!

My husband and I decided to rent out the outdoor Pavilion and also pay for some land to set up our ceremony in the grass. It was exceptional. The DNR there was so helpful, and when we asked if we could have some brush cleaned up so we could see the water behind where we set the arbor up, not only did he have that spot cleaned up. But the whole area. Was a beautiful spot and a great experience. Also camped the whole weekend and the campsites were nice and clean. Was also nice for the kids, they could go play at the park anytime. Will always recommend this park if anyone asks for a nice nature area.
