Location & Surroundings
Tucked away near the charming town of Michigamme, MI, the campground is situated in a heavily wooded area that highlights the rugged beauty of the region. The scenic location serves as a gateway to the vast wilderness of the Upper Peninsula. Its position near the lake provides easy access to the water, offering a peaceful environment surrounded by dense hardwoods that burst with vibrant color during the fall season.
Amenities & Park Features
Because this is a rustic state forest campground, amenities are kept intentionally basic to preserve the natural atmosphere. You will find vault toilets and hand pumps for potable water, ensuring essential needs are met without overcrowding the landscape. Each campsite includes a fire ring and a picnic table, perfect for evening fires. The sites are generally best suited for tents and smaller RVs, as the roads and pads are designed for a more intimate, natural footprint.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The area surrounding Michigamme is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Beaufort Lake itself is a popular spot for fishing and non-motorized boating, allowing visitors to enjoy the calm waters at their own pace. Beyond the lake, the region is dotted with trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Additionally, the proximity to various state forest lands provides excellent opportunities for bird watching, photography, and exploring the unique geological history of the Marquette County region.
Who This Park Is Best For
Beaufort Lake State Forest Campground is best suited for self-contained campers and those who appreciate a no-frills, authentic forest experience. If you prefer modern hookups, high-speed internet, and manicured lawns, this may not be the right fit. However, for travelers seeking solitude, stargazing opportunities, and a quiet basecamp for outdoor adventures, this campground provides an affordable and memorable connection to Michigan’s wilder side.

Tiny campground right on a beautiful lake. Easy kayak or canoe access from each site. Pit toilets. On Friday night all filled up! I was lucky and got the last spot! Kind of expensive fir out of state. The drunk people next to me thought everything they said was hilarious…… up till 11pm . Ugh. Probably not as crowded in the mid week. Ok pit toilets. Hear highway noise.

The clean/clear water is directly behind the fire pit. Nice and relaxing.

Its like a parking lot but for tents, with few trees. But it is right on the lake. Looked very well kept and clean. Just to open for me.

Just amazing!!! Be prepared for sand and bugs with a lil bipolar weather added in. They now have porta pots that are clean.

$20/night rustic camping by the lake....which unfortunately attracts flies! Drop toilets. There is a water pump which they say is potable but the colour of the water that came out was a bit too green in flavour for me to confidently be drinking that.
