Beauvais Lake

Overview

Beauvais Lake Provincial Park offers a peaceful retreat nestled in the rolling foothills of the Canadian Rockies. This park provides a quiet escape from more crowded tourist destinations, focusing on natural beauty and outdoor recreation. Managed by Alberta Parks, it maintains a well-preserved environment where visitors can enjoy the unique intersection of prairie and mountain landscapes. It is a year-round destination known for its diverse wildlife and serene lakeside setting, making it a staple for southern Alberta travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just 20 kilometers west of Pincher Creek, AB, the park is easily accessible yet feels remarkably secluded. The landscape is characterized by the sparkling waters of Beauvais Lake, surrounded by dense forests and lush meadows. This transition zone between the mountains and the plains creates a unique ecosystem. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by scenic vistas and a calm atmosphere that defines the quiet beauty of the southern Alberta foothills.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a variety of campsites, including many equipped with 15/30-amp power hookups suitable for various RV sizes. Each site typically includes a private fire pit and a sturdy picnic table. On-site facilities offer a boat launch for non-motorized or electric motor vessels, multiple birdwatching blinds, and a playground for families. While it lacks individual sewer hookups, the presence of a central water filling station and a convenient sani-dump ensures a comfortable stay for self-contained rigs.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore an extensive network of hiking and biking trails, such as the popular path up to Mount Baldy for panoramic views of the region. The lake itself is a premier destination for trout fishing and kayaking. Beyond the park boundaries, a short drive leads to the historic town of Pincher Creek or the stunning landscapes of Waterton Lakes National Park. The proximity to Castle Provincial Park also offers additional rugged exploration opportunities for adventurous travelers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for nature photographers and birdwatchers looking to spot local species in a quiet, undisturbed environment. It is best suited for RVers who prefer a rustic, authentic camping experience over a commercial resort-style stay. Families who enjoy active outdoor pursuits like fishing and hiking will find plenty of engagement here. It serves as a perfect base camp for those wanting to explore Southwestern Alberta without the density of the larger national parks.

It is a nice place for camping and picnics.  Walked around to enjoy a scenic view of Lake, it is fun to see a muskrat chewing stripped bark in the water.  A little bit quiet of the lake in winter, but you will enjoy nature sounds, watch for birds, waterfowl, and wildlife. There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and skiing as well.

Beauvais Lake quickly became one of my favourite Provincial Parks. With all the lush flora and fauna there are so many things to see and explore. You'll find accessible friendly trails along the lake and around the campground. If you are up for a challenge there are 3 great peaks to explore; Baldy, Albert and Piney, Piney point is my personal and great for a sunset! The campground is fantastic! The sites are spacious with tons of trees around. There are walk-in tenting sites on the south end of the lake which is a nice quiet option to enjoy the park. The staff and campground host: Eleanor and Lenard are welcoming and friendly. I also highly recommend checking out the interpretive programs, they are always a hoot!

A wonderful camping experience. We had never camped there, but we will definitely be back! The cross-country ski trials double as hiking trails in the summer. We hiked to the top of Mount Baldy for some gorgeous vies of the area. The lake would be great for kayaking or small boats. Just a note, bring your own potable water. There are pit toilets. A jewel to discover!

Nice campground with plenty of first come first served & reservable sites. Looked like great fishing, the lake is beautiful and calm. Had a couple dips to cool down (was 36c in the shade) which was nice - beware there are leaches! Best spot to go in is straight across from the boat launch as the crow flies. Outhouses are basic and no showers. People were having fires and not being super quiet - which I appreciate. Plenty of places patrol the noise a little too hard.

This park is not far from the main roads and there is a good size town for supplies not too far away. We did miss the turn off to the campground when we entered the park but were able to easily turn around and go back. There is a very nice adventure playground with benches and picnic tables nearby located in the campground. Campsites are roomy and offer some privacy. There is a sign showing all the trails with distances but there are also bear and cougar warnings. There are FCFS sites as wall as reservation sites. There was no indication if the sites marked R for reservable were available or not. There was a park host with on duty when we camped here. There is an osprey nest on top of an old dead tree in the boat launch parking. We watched them fishing in the lake. The campground is not on the lake and there is not beach area. The park is on level ground and the sites are level.
