Beavertail Hill
Overview
Beavertail Hill State Park offers a peaceful riverside retreat along the scenic banks of the Clark Fork River in western Montana. This 65-acre park provides a classic outdoor experience characterized by a thick canopy of mature cottonwood forests and lush wetlands. It serves as a quiet alternative to busier commercial campgrounds, focusing on nature and tranquility rather than high-density resort living.
Location & Surroundings
Located conveniently just off Interstate 90 in Clinton, MT, the park sits nestled within a dramatic bend of the Clark Fork River. The surrounding landscape features a dense layer of trees that provide ample shade and a sense of privacy for campers. While the park is easy to access for travelers, the thick vegetation and the rushing sounds of the water help maintain a distinct sense of secluded wilderness despite its proximity to the highway.
Amenities & Park Features
The park offers 24 campsites, including several specifically designed for RV travelers. While the experience is primarily rustic, the park provides the following features for a comfortable stay:
- Electric hookups at select sites to power essential equipment.
- A central dump station and potable water for RV maintenance.
- Two rentable tipis for a unique Montana lodging experience.
Visitors also have access to an amphitheater for educational programs and a nature trail that winds through the park’s diverse ecosystems.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy immediate access to the river for blue-ribbon trout fishing and recreational floating. The park includes a one-hour interpretive nature trail that takes visitors through a swampy pond area, perfect for bird watching and photography. For those craving more activity, the vibrant city of Missoula is only 25 miles west, offering a wealth of cultural attractions, local breweries, and historic landmarks.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for RVers who prefer a rustic and authentic camping experience over a paved commercial lot. It is a fantastic choice for nature photographers and anglers who want to be steps away from the water. Because of the compact site layouts and natural terrain, it is most suited for small to mid-sized RVs, making it a perfect getaway for those who value quiet evenings under the stars.

We loved staying here. Nice rv campsites with hookups. You have enough room that you dont feel packed in. Good river access

We only stayed one night. It's a really nice, clean, campground. We really appreciated how level the pull-through site was.

Spacious sites, most shaded, but only a few are on the river. Almost all sites are electric but they do not gave water at site (although it is available in the campground). Clean pit toilets. NO T-Mobile service. NO dump station, but if desperate (as we were) there is a private campground at the next I90 exit (traveling east) that will allow dumping for $20. It is not far off I90 and there is a nearby train, but the noise from both were tolerable. Friendly Camp host. For us, this was a nice stop over campground, but it would not be a destination. They don’t mention it at the campground or river access, but the Clark River is contaminated from old mines, and you are not supposed to eat the fish.

Nice and clean. Camp hosts were friendly. Perfect for our 24’ RV and plenty of room for our tent. Only downside was we’re camping next to a couple that looked like they lived there - lots of ladders, spare tires, storage bins, visually cluttered and slightly trashy. Oh well, we just looked the other way. 😃

Nice State Park and campground. We stayed 4 nights. Electric hookup $15.00 a night with MT residence and senior discount. Nice nature trail. Fishing access as it is on the Clark fork River. There is a nice pond across the highway that we saw , some folks fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The only downside is that you can hear some highway noise and the trains running on the nearby railroad track.
