Beeds Lake
Overview
Beeds Lake State Park offers a serene escape in the heart of North Central Iowa. Centered around a stunning 100-acre lake, this park is perhaps best known for its historic limestone spillway, a masterpiece constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. RV travelers will find a peaceful environment where the gentle sound of rushing water over the dam provides a natural soundtrack for their stay.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just northwest of Hampton, IA, the park is defined by its scenic wooded bluffs and lush greenery. The landscape transitions from rolling Iowa farmland into a sheltered valley that feels worlds away from the highway. The lake itself is surrounded by a canopy of hardwoods, offering vibrant colors in the autumn and cool shade during the height of the summer months.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features both electric and non-electric sites, catering to a variety of RV sizes. Visitors have access to several essential park features:
- Modern shower facilities and clean restroom buildings.
- A convenient boat ramp and multiple accessible fishing jetties.
- An on-site dump station for easy waste management.
These amenities ensure a comfortable stay while maintaining the authentic, rustic charm of the Iowa outdoors.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a two-mile multi-use trail that circles the entire lake, offering flat terrain perfect for a morning stroll or a bike ride. The lake is a popular destination for catching largemouth bass and northern pike. Just a short drive away, the city of Hampton offers a charming town square and historic architecture, providing a nice balance between nature and small-town Iowa culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers seeking a classic state park experience without the crowds of larger national destinations. It is a wonderful choice for families who enjoy fishing and hiking, as well as photographers drawn to the unique architectural beauty of the spillway. If your travel style favors quiet evenings by the fire and easy access to water activities, Beeds Lake is a perfect Iowa stopover.

Poor info online. No one answers phone. Only 2 sites with full hookup and they are reserved year round as host sites. Would be a nice little Campground but 99% of the sites are electric only. Sad

One of our favorites. Not too big or overly crowded. Pretty quiet, nice lots, clean bathrooms. Showers here also. Walking trail around lake, plenty of fishing from shore or boat.

We went here on labor day weekend. The campgrounds were well kept and clean. the lake is nice but a small lake so a large boat wouldn't be the best choice. The camp sites are right on top of each other. when we pulled up to our site we thought someone was in our site. Apparently we were just suposed to park along the road. on one of the roads going through the campsite I think there was only 2 feet on either side of the RV. Maybe on a non holiday weekend it is not as bad.

Nice laid back spot! We reserved two camping spots for a group of six, could've probably fit into 1 spot but the extra space was nice! Private shower rooms and bathroom onsite, each campsite has a fire pit and grill combo, atleast one picknick table, plenty of trees surrounding the park area and a solid breeze. Mostly rocky shore near the camping area with a gradual decline into the lake unless you go in around the little peninsula then it's a pretty sudden drop off. There is a hiking trail around the entire lake with a bridge that goes over part of the lake. Didn't do enough fishing to get a real feel for the lake in that sense.

Took a short walk to the dam. The lake is beautiful. We did take a path at the bottom of the dam that was a dead end to a drainage ditch. The campground looks really nice and there is a really nice picnic area.
