Beulah Bay Campground

Overview

Beulah Bay Campground sits along the scenic southern shores of Lake Sakakawea, offering a quintessential North Dakota outdoor experience. Managed by Mercer County, this park is widely recognized for its spacious sites and direct access to one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States. Whether you are arriving for a weekend of fishing or a longer family vacation, the park provides a welcoming atmosphere that highlights the natural beauty of the Missouri River system. It is a destination where the horizon feels endless and the waterfront sunsets create lasting memories for every traveler.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated approximately 15 miles north of Beulah, North Dakota, tucked away from the noise of major highways. This location offers a perfect blend of prairie landscapes and aquatic vistas. The surrounding topography consists of rolling hills and rugged shoreline, typical of the Missouri Plateau. Because the campground is positioned on a bay, it remains somewhat sheltered while still providing expansive views of Lake Sakakawea. Visitors will appreciate the quiet, rural setting that allows for stargazing and a true disconnection from the hustle of urban life.

Amenities & Park Features

Catering to a variety of camping styles, the park features over 100 campsites with electrical hookups to accommodate modern RVs. Travelers will find well-maintained facilities, including modern restrooms and coin-operated showers. For those bringing boats, the park offers multiple boat ramps and a dedicated fish cleaning station, which is a major draw for the angling community. Additional conveniences include a sanitation dump station, fresh water filling points, and large picnic shelters. Children often gravitate toward the on-site playground, while the designated swimming beach provides a safe spot for cooling off during the summer months.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly the lake, which is a premier destination for walleye and northern pike fishing. Boating and kayaking are also popular activities along the miles of shoreline. For history enthusiasts, the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is a short drive away, offering a look into the lives of the Mandan and Hidatsa people. The nearby city of Beulah provides local dining and shopping options for stocking up on supplies. Additionally, the impressive Garrison Dam is within reach for a day trip, providing educational tours and bird-watching opportunities in the tailwaters.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal match for active families and outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize water-based recreation. If you enjoy a social atmosphere centered around fishing and boating, you will feel right at home among the community of regulars here. It is also an excellent choice for big-rig owners looking for a scenic base camp that offers enough space to maneuver and set up comfortably. Those seeking a rustic yet functional experience will appreciate the balance of essential utilities and the raw, unpolished charm of the North Dakota badlands and plains.

The camp host Ken and Patti are the best part! The view of the lake is wonderful. The grounds are kept up. Love that the office is also stocked with stuff you need so you don’t have to run back into town. Quiet, but everyone is friendly.

Loved this campground!!!! Such a beautiful view of the bay, clean, friendly neighbors. And an amazing staff who even came to look for the phone we thought we’d left behind. We will 100% be back! Thank you!

Good campground with a lot of space. Easy access to the water. Fishing was fun from Pebble Beach. Later fun to swim and gather with friends and family on the beach.
