Overview
Bandy Creek Campground serves as the primary hub for visitors exploring the massive Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Located on the Tennessee side of the park, this campground offers a balanced transition between a rugged wilderness experience and the comforts required by modern RVers. It is managed by the National Park Service and provides a tranquil, forested base for discovering the deep gorges and high plateaus of the Cumberland Plateau. The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet, emphasizing the natural sounds of the Tennessee woods over commercial distractions.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in Oneida, TN, the park is defined by its dramatic and ancient landscapes. Visitors are surrounded by towering sandstone bluffs, lush hardwood forests, and the rushing waters of the Big South Fork River. This region is geographically famous for having one of the highest concentrations of natural stone arches in the eastern United States. The campground itself is situated on a high plateau, providing a relatively level landscape for camping while remaining just a short drive or hike away from steep, scenic overlooks.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features nearly 100 sites specifically equipped with water and electrical hookups for RVs, supporting both 30 and 50-amp service. Travelers can enjoy access to well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers, a seasonal swimming pool, and a playground for families. While the setting is remote, the park provides essential infrastructure including a dump station and a nearby visitor center. The campsites are spacious and offer a sense of privacy that is often missing from private RV resorts, featuring fire rings and picnic tables at every spot.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is steps away with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails crisscrossing the recreation area. The East Rim Overlook is a must-visit destination, offering breathtaking views of the river gorge, while the Leatherwood Ford area provides access to the water for fishing or paddling. For those traveling with horses, the nearby Bandy Creek Stables offer boarding facilities that cater to the park’s extensive and world-class network of equestrian trails, making it a premier destination for riders.

Beautiful campground and park. Lots of different hiking options of varying lengths and ability. Definitely want to come back here again, so much to see and do in the area.

We love Bandy Creek and thoroughly enjoyed taking our boys there! The bathhouses are clean and the warm shower is very welcoming after a long day of hiking. The facility feels safe.

Beautiful place. Camping was perfect. The visitor center was staffed by cheerful people. The general store was well stocked for essential products or treats. The checking in station ranger obviously loved her job and meeting people. And Lastly but at the top of the list was the campground staff on duty. He and daughter was there welcoming people and checking in on them frequently as they themselves camped on site. I had mentioned that we had forgotten shampoo and a few minutes later, they brought several shampoo options. I had just ran to the onsite store to buy some, but the offer was kind and genuine! I would recommend this spot just for them if it came down to it but everything else was so well kept, it all was a great experience. Plus, you dont have to leave your camp ground to hike, shop, feel like a community, or be completely alone. Fantastic!!!

It’s a very quiet campground with spacious sites. The bathroom is very clean and they have showers. We stayed in the D Loop and I have my three dogs with me and they had a great time. Great place to camp. Not busy in August

Basically self serve campground. They do go around making sure you put your food up. The black bears are pretty active in the area. Great little campground with pretty nice bathrooms and areas for you to wash your dishes. They have a pool that closes at like 7. Check the website for more accurate time. That was disappointing. Bunch of hiking from the campground. Nice area and nice campground!
