Billings KOA Holiday

Overview

The Billings KOA Holiday holds a unique place in camping history as the world’s very first KOA, established in 1962. While it honors its storied heritage, the park has evolved into a modern, resort-style retreat that offers the high standards today's RVers expect. It serves as a lush, green oasis in the heart of Big Sky Country, providing a welcoming environment for travelers to recharge. This park successfully balances the nostalgia of classic American road-tripping with updated facilities and attentive guest services.

Location & Surroundings

Situated conveniently near the banks of the Yellowstone River, the park offers a scenic setting just minutes from the urban conveniences of Montana’s largest city. The surrounding landscape is defined by the Rimrocks, dramatic sandstone cliffs that offer stunning vistas and hiking opportunities. Its proximity to Interstate 90 makes it a primary gateway for those traveling toward the Beartooth Highway or venturing into the nearby mountain ranges, providing a perfect blend of accessibility and natural beauty.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is packed with amenities designed for both comfort and recreation. Guests can enjoy a heated swimming pool and seasonal hot tubs, which are popular spots for relaxation after a long day of travel. For those traveling with four-legged companions, the park features a well-maintained KampK9 dog park. RV sites range from standard hookups to deluxe patio sites that include built-in fire pits and comfortable outdoor seating, catering to everything from modest campers to massive big rigs.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Exploring the area is easy with attractions like Pictograph Cave State Park located just a short drive away, where visitors can view ancient rock art. History buffs often make the trip to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument to learn about the region's complex past. For a more local experience, the downtown Billings area offers a vibrant brewery trail and various dining options, while the nearby Yellowstone River provides excellent opportunities for fishing and riverside strolls.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families seeking a safe, activity-filled environment where children can enjoy mini-golf and bike rentals. It is also a top choice for history enthusiasts who want to stay at the birthplace of the KOA franchise. Because of its high-quality hookups and easy highway access, it remains a favorite for cross-country travelers looking for a reliable and comfortable basecamp while exploring the gateway to the western national parks.

I would like to leave a 10 star review if I could. We attended one of the Billings KOA festivals and I couldn't tell you how much my family and myself enjoyed it. The staff is the most amazing crew I have had such pleasure to be around. The manager, he is completely involved. We had such a great time We stayed for hours. The grounds were spotless and everything was in such great shape. We look forward to our next time there. Like I said a total 10 Star!!

We haven't stayed here YET, we came to their First Annual Fall Festival! It was so much fun. On site for campers and available for non-guests for $15/person. They have mini golf, a swimming pool, playground and an area outside for outdoor movies during the summer! It is a large campground and reservations are recommended, this summer when I tried to stay it was already full.

The cabin we stayed in was in good shape. The bathroom/shower house that is not a part of the main building was disgusting. It stank the whole 3 days we were there. They had some ladies the last day that may have cleaned (on a Saturday). I didn't feel comfortable showering in there unless my husband was outside. There are quite a few long term campers that give it a shady vibe. I wouldn't let my teen daughters walk around without ut. The bathrooms in the main building are much much nicer! Definitely use those. The office staff was very friendly.

Campsites are clean and well maintained. They're on the smaller side but you're not right on top of each other. Pool is well kept, tables with umbrellas and plenty of loungers. Great mini golf course. Kids playground is nice, even lit up late at night. The river is just a short walk down a path. What really makes it though, is the staff is amazing here; friendly and helpful.

What a gem of a campground! Even though we only stayed for one night, it was clear this place is something special. The bathhouse was amazing—super clean and well-maintained. Our camping spot was perfectly flat, making setup quick and easy. Each site came with a sturdy picnic table and a great fire pit, which we really appreciated. The laundry rooms were spotless and well-equipped, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. There’s an awesome pet area, and the mini golf course looked was so much fun—we just didn’t have time to enjoy it all on this trip. We’ll definitely be back for a longer stay. 100% recommend and 100% planning to return!
