Birds Hill
Overview
Birds Hill Provincial Park stands as a crowning jewel in the Manitoba park system, offering a vast natural escape just a short drive from the provincial capital. Unlike many small roadside stops, this park provides a diverse ecosystem spanning thousands of rolling acres of aspen parkland and prairie. It is a place where travelers can truly immerse themselves in the local flora and fauna, making it a staple for regional explorers and long-haul RVers who want to experience the natural beauty of the prairies.
Location & Surroundings
Conveniently situated near the community of Oakbank, MB, the park offers a unique sense of seclusion despite its proximity to the urban amenities of Winnipeg. The surrounding landscape is characterized by its unique glacial ridges and thick forests, providing a refreshing change of pace from the flat agricultural lands typically found nearby. This strategic location makes it an ideal base for those who want to explore the culture of the city while retreating to a quiet woodland sanctuary every evening.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is exceptionally well-equipped to handle modern RVs, offering a variety of site configurations including full-service hookups with water, power, and sewer connections. Visitors have access to modern comfort stations, hot showers, and laundry facilities to ensure a seamless stay. Many sites are beautifully treed for privacy, and the expansive man-made lake features a sandy beach perfect for cooling off. An on-site general store provides essential supplies and firewood for the classic campfire experience.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Activity is at the heart of the Birds Hill experience. The park is famous for its extensive network of paved and natural trails, which are perfect for cycling, hiking, and birdwatching throughout the year. Just outside the park gates, visitors can enjoy the boutique shopping and farm-to-table dining at Pineridge Hollow. The area is also known for hosting the Winnipeg Folk Festival, making it a vibrant destination for music lovers and those seeking a community-oriented atmosphere.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is perfectly suited for active families and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate a well-maintained trail system and organized recreational activities. My favorite provincial park near the city. Hiking, biking, cross country, cruising, roller blading, dog walks, swimming at the beach, picnic, horseback riding, camping, coffee, fine dinning, bougie shopping at pine ridge, and a good place to teach new drivers😁

We visited Birds Hill Provincial Park in September of 2023, and it was a wonderful experience! The fall colors were starting to show, and the scenery was breathtaking. The weather was mild and sunny, with a crispness in the air that was perfect for hiking and outdoor activities. The park was relatively quiet, making it easy to connect with nature and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The trails were well-maintained and offered varying levels of difficulty, suitable for both casual walkers and avid hikers. The park's scenic drives and picnic areas were also lovely, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the views. The fall wildflowers were still in bloom, adding a splash of color to the already beautiful landscape. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Birds Hill Provincial Park in September. The comfortable weather and stunning fall colors make it an ideal time to explore this beautiful Manitoba park.

It was nice to be there on a sunny, warm autumn day. Trees were stunning, and you will find beautiful wild animals. The park is great for jogging or walking dog, or maybe picnic. If you are with your close friends or family, you will definitely enjoy spending a day there. However I was surprised that they locked up almost all bathrooms in the entire park(even though they only had two in such a big park). I only found one (looks like) abandoned potty, and one drop toilet. If they have at least clean bathrooms, I would go there every autumn. Not suitable for little ones but if you enjoy outdoor activities you will love this place.

Excellent place. 👌 👍 Birds Hill is a place where you can not only walk around the neighborhood, and enjoy nature. There are many bike paths and a great lake with a clean sandy beach. There are picnic areas and camping areas. Mostly birches and pines grow here, so the atmosphere is very sincere.
