4.4* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 5* Service: 4* Would I go back / Recommend?: 5* (Definitely) Total check/person: $18 07/13/2025 We were looking for a place to stop for brunch after Mass in Webster on our way back home to Des Moines and my in-laws suggested Bitter Lake Lodge's buffet. The building has a modern steel exterior and a modern hunting cabin like interior with a concrete floor (see pictures). Service was prompt and there was a reasonable selection on the buffet line (scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese, bacon, sausages, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, pancakes and french toast sticks). The scrambled eggs were very good and the potatoes were good, but they were out after we went through and were not replenished. The sausages were plentiful and the bacon was thick, hearty and smokey. Overall, this was a solid, above average buffet with good service at a good value ($12.99 + coffee / beverage). Other than a desire that they be a bit more attentive to the quantity of food in the pans and replenishing as required, my main disappointment was that black plastic forks were the only eating utensils available. Given the available foods, metal knives wouldn't be necessary - but having metal forks would be appreciated. If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow.

All three times I have been service takes over an hour to get food. Two times leaving before being served. Tonight we arrived at 8:20 took 15 minutes to get ordered and food has not arrived even at 9:31. Server was seen sitting at the table next to us just visiting.

We were up from Kansas last weekend and had the best time ever, fishing wasn't bad either! The food was great but most important, the service was truly outstanding, from the manager, the waitresses we had, and the bartender! We all felt very welcome and met some good folks. Keep up the great work, we will be back!!

Great place to stay, close to the lake, clean bathhouse and the owner is a super nice guy! I stayed at the campground in an ice shack for 3 nights, Mark was able to give some fishing advice on the early ice and was very helpful in every step of reservation to check out. Unfortunately the lodge was closed for unforeseen circumstances during my short stay. I was looking forward to a nice steak dinner and a beer. Always next time.
