Blanco

Overview

Blanco State Park offers a refreshing retreat along a small but beautiful one-mile stretch of the Blanco River. This 105-acre park, established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, combines historic charm with natural beauty. Visitors often remark on the tranquil atmosphere, where the sound of cascading water over stone dams provides a peaceful backdrop for a classic Texas Hill Country camping experience. It serves as an accessible gateway to nature without leaving the convenience of town behind.

Location & Surroundings

Situated right in the town of Blanco, Texas, this park is uniquely positioned compared to more isolated state parks. You are just blocks away from local shops and restaurants, yet once inside the gates, the limestone bluffs and cypress trees create a secluded environment. The park is centrally located between Austin and San Antonio, making it an ideal hub for exploring the broader Texas Hill Country landscape, characterized by rolling hills and scenic river valleys.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides well-maintained facilities for RVers, including full hookup sites with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electricity. For those who prefer a bit more simplicity, there are also sites with water and electricity only. Beyond the pads, guests have access to restrooms with hot showers, a group pavilion, and picnic areas equipped with grills. The historic stone structures built by the CCC add a unique architectural element to the park's functional amenities, blending utility with timeless design.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the main draw here, with opportunities for swimming and paddling in the cool river waters. Anglers can fish for bass, catfish, and sunfish, or visit during the winter months when the river is stocked with rainbow trout. Outside the park, the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is a short drive away, while the famous wineries and boutiques of Fredericksburg are within easy reach for a day trip through the hills.

Who This Park Is Best For

Blanco is an excellent choice for family campers looking for a safe and manageable environment where kids can swim and explore. It is also ideal for RVers who enjoy being close to town services while still having immediate access to outdoor recreation. If you appreciate historic sites and a slower pace of life, this park offers a cozy, community-oriented vibe that makes it feel more like a local hidden gem than a crowded tourist destination.

My husband and I visited Blanco State Park early August and the park was absolutely beautiful! We were taking a weekend trip to San Antonio and decided to try and beat the Texas heat and make a pit stop here! I was around nine months pregnant when I visited so we stayed in the pool part of the water. To be expected it was very full lots of people. It was around 2 in the afternoon so it makes sense. A great place for children to run around and make friends. There are no lifeguards and the water is not even and very deep in certain parts. I highly recommend bending a life jacket for little ones who aren’t strong swimmers. There are porta potty’s nearby, trash cans, trees with shade, and picnic tables.

Slept in a screen in porch. Electricity water picnic table ceiling fans. You have to bring your own sleeping gear. I paid thirty three dollars

Nice little park on the banks of the Blanco River in the small town of Blanco Texas. A quaint little town with restaurants and shopping to enjoy. We camped at site 12. The Rv pad was asphalt. Mostly level with plenty of shade on the east side. Full hook ups with 30 amp power, water and sewer. Power pedestal was in good shape. Water pressure was good. We had good cell coverage on Verizon. Off air TV channels were strong, but only 6 channels. Wi-fi in the park was good for streaming Netflix and web browsing. Bathhouse was close by and kept clean in good shape. Showers are coded for campers only. This park has good short hiking trails. River access is great on the day use( North) side,,,, not so much on the campground side, but I hear the fishing is good. Most of the camp sites are for smaller campers , although a few can accommodate big rigs and there is one pull thru site. All in all , its a nice quiet park.

Sites in the middle of beautiful tall shade trees. Next to a cow pasture, nice to hearthe low mooing sounds while enjoying the shade as the soft breeze moves through the campsites. The beautiful Blanco River skirts the park. Swimming, paddle boarding and sunbathing encouraged.
