Blue Lake Park (Muskegon County Park)
Overview
Blue Lake Park, managed by Muskegon County, offers a serene escape nestled on the shores of Big Blue Lake. Spanning 25 acres, this park is defined by its towering trees and peaceful atmosphere, providing a more rustic camping experience compared to bustling commercial resorts. It serves as an ideal base for those looking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the simple pleasures of lakeside living in the heart of West Michigan.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Holton, MI, the park feels secluded yet remains accessible to the broader Muskegon area. The landscape is dominated by a lush, heavily wooded canopy that provides ample shade and privacy for campers. The highlight of the setting is the immediate access to the clean, clear waters of Big Blue Lake, which serves as the centerpiece for all recreational activities in the park.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 60 sites, many of which provide electric hookups for RVers. While the park leans toward a natural vibe, it provides several essential conveniences including:
- A sanitary dump station for easy RV maintenance.
- A paved boat launch for direct lake access.
- Designated swimming beach and playground areas.
Vault toilets and hand-pump water stations are strategically placed throughout the grounds, ensuring that the park's footprint remains minimal while still catering to the basic needs of visitors.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water enthusiasts will find plenty to do, from fishing and kayaking on Big Blue Lake to relaxing on the sandy shore. Beyond the park gates, the location offers easy access to Michigan's Adventure, the state's largest amusement park and water park. For those who enjoy hiking or cycling, the nearby trails and the expansive Manistee National Forest offer miles of exploration. The vibrant city of Muskegon is also a short drive away for local dining.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is a perfect match for traditional campers and RVers who prefer a quiet, natural setting over a luxury resort. It is particularly well-suited for families and boaters who want direct lake access without the crowds often found at larger state parks. If you value privacy, stargazing, and a slower pace of life under a canopy of oaks and pines, Blue Lake Park provides the perfect Michigan summer backdrop.

It was a very nice park. Nice picnic and nice beach areas. No bathroom but there was a porta-potty.

Nice little park on quiet water for a picnic or little swim. Water is fairly shallow, i waited out a bit to fish. Plenty of babies here

The park itself is beautiful with wonderful views of the lake. The bathrooms are very nice, when they are clean. The problem is they only have one employee whom we never saw until the last 2 days of our trip. We had to clean our showers out before using them the entire time we were there. Also the sites are beautiful, but very poorly marked. So we had no idea where we were supposed to be and had to call someone for assistance upon arrival. They kinda described where we were supposed to be. Still not sure we were on the right spot. The beach is not an actual beach. Its about a 2ft cliff you have to jump over to get into the slightly snake infested water. Do NOT recommend swimming here. Overall, we would come back again, but the park definitely needs some more regular maintenance.

Swimming area, picnic area. Nice shallow spot for wading! Portable potty. We would definitely come back and maybe consider camping next time!

Pretty lake and sunsets. Good for kayaking or boating. Clean bathrooms and showers. Configuration of campsites and fire pits was a little strange. A few sites were a little far from water and electric hook ups.
