Bobwhite State Park offers a serene escape in the heart of southern Iowa's rolling hills. Named after the distinct call of the Bobwhite quail, this park is widely known for its tranquil 115-acre lake and lush timber landscapes. It is an ideal spot for travelers looking to disconnect from the noise of the city and enjoy the simple beauty of nature. The park’s well-maintained grounds provide a welcoming environment for both weekend visitors and long-distance RVers looking for a peaceful lakeside retreat during their journey.
Location & Surroundings
Located just outside Allerton, IA, the park is tucked away in Wayne County, very close to the Missouri border. The landscape is defined by the expansive Bobwhite Lake, which is surrounded by dense woodlands and open grassy areas. This quiet rural setting ensures minimal light pollution, making it a fantastic spot for stargazing from your campsite. The drive into the park takes you through scenic Iowa farmland, setting a calm tone before you even unhook your rig.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and the educational signs throughout. There were maps all along the trails and we would love to come back and explore more of the park. Lots of native flowers and grasses as well as birds.

The staff in recent years have done a lot of great work updating, and making the park better. Not much too it but if you are looking for the rural community park style this is it. The trails are cool though

So happy that we came across this gem!! Beautiful, clean, very nice camp host (Steve and his wife) and campers. Great fishing, lots of wildlife. It's so relaxing here. This will be our new camping spot! We fished and dine some kayaking while we were here. July 26-28th 2024!
