Bon Echo
Overview
Bon Echo Provincial Park is one of Ontario’s most iconic natural landmarks, defined by the towering 100-metre high Mazinaw Rock that rises directly from the lake. This park offers a blend of cultural history and rugged Canadian Shield beauty, making it a bucket-list destination for RVers visiting Eastern Ontario. Visitors are drawn to the park’s deep waters and the over 260 Indigenous pictographs that decorate the cliff face, creating a sense of timelessness and wonder for everyone who stays here.
Location & Surroundings
Situated near the small community of Cloyne, Ontario, the park is easily accessible via Highway 41. It serves as a gateway to the Land O’ Lakes region, characterized by its dense forests and crystal-clear water bodies. The surrounding area is relatively remote, providing a peaceful escape from the urban centers of Ottawa or Toronto. The landscape is dominated by Mazinaw Lake, which is one of the deepest lakes in the province, ensuring breathtaking views from nearly every vantage point within the park boundaries.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides a range of camping options, with many sites specifically designed for RVs in the Mazinaw Lake area. While full hookups are not available, there are numerous electrical sites that accommodate various trailer sizes. The park features clean comfort stations with showers, and centrally located RV fill and dump stations for convenience. Travelers can also enjoy the designated swimming beaches, a well-stocked park store, and a dedicated boat launch for those bringing their own watercraft to explore the massive lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many is the Wanderer Boat Tour, which takes visitors close to the historic pictographs and provides insight into the park's geology. For active travelers, the Cliff Top Trail offers a challenging hike with a rewarding panoramic view of the surrounding wilderness. Beyond the park, the nearby town of Cloyne offers local shops and small eateries. Many visitors also spend their time paddling along the base of the rock or fishing for lake trout and pike in the depths of Mazinaw.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and photographers who want to capture the dramatic scenery of the Canadian Shield. Because it offers a more rustic experience without full sewer hookups, it is best suited for RVers who enjoy a traditional camping vibe while still having access to modern comfort stations. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to combine outdoor education with recreation, as the historical significance of the rock provides a unique learning experience for all ages.

One of the must see parks in Ontario, well maintained and has good paths/beachfront to go kayaking or simply stargaze. Multiple trails allow for active campers go hiking with wonderful views. It’s worth mentioning that you have enough privacy as the division is done smartly. You’ll not be bothered by your neighbours and they will not feel your presence, great camp planning. Highly recommend!

The park really is incredible. I'm lucky to have check off another Ontario Parks campground on my bucketlist, and it was the best three days of autumn. The midway campsite is family friendly with plenty of activities nearby. We stayed from Saturday to Monday in. Radio Free campground, it's busy on weekdays and really peaceful on weekday. There weren't many bugs except in shady areas, so keep that in mind during the evenings. Nature is breathtaking to explore. Overall, it's an incredible park for beginner campers!

Lovely views. Loads of camp sites but you're on top of each other. If you are looking for camp sites for multiple people in your group and able to see each other then this is the park for you. Amenities were well maintained but for the number of camp sites there were too few showers. People were lined up to use them. While I appreciate the attempt to keep the odor down at the outdoor toilets the perfume used was over powering and I can't imagine it doesn't affect the wildlife.

Beautiful park to camp, just been here overnight one night so far. Enjoying the visit very much. The beaches are nice, the water clear. Going to kayak later, to absorb the gorgeous scenery. The comfort stations are so clean! Been to many provincial parks to camp, this is the cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen! Great job staff!

Pleasant staff, very friendly and courteous. It is a beautiful park with stunning views of mazinaw rock. The guided boat tour was much worth it. Nice place to canoe/kayak and let the kids play in water. No wonder this stays on top of the list of best places to camp. Vault was better than other places. Comfort stations were clean.
