Boulton Creek Campground

Overview

Boulton Creek Campground serves as a premier basecamp for exploring the rugged beauty of Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Situated within the heart of Kananaskis Country, this seasonal destination offers a perfect balance between traditional wilderness camping and modern convenience. It is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after spots in the Alberta Rockies due to its spacious forested sites and proximity to iconic alpine scenery.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away near Kananaskis Village, the campground is surrounded by towering peaks and dense sub-alpine forests. The atmosphere here is defined by the crisp mountain air and the gentle sounds of Boulton Creek flowing nearby. RVers will find themselves immersed in a natural landscape where wildlife sightings are common, yet they remain within a short drive of the amenities found at Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes.

Amenities & Park Features

What sets this facility apart from many provincial sites is the availability of power and water hookups at several loops, making it highly compatible for medium to large RVs. On-site facilities include hot showers, flush toilets, and a well-stocked Trading Post that offers groceries, camping supplies, and even ice cream. For those looking to explore on two wheels, the park features direct access to an extensive network of paved bike paths and equipment rentals.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure waits just outside your camper door with world-class hiking trails like Rawson Lake and Sarrail Ridge located only minutes away. The nearby lakes provide exceptional opportunities for paddling, fishing, and lakeside picnicking. Cyclists can enjoy the Highwood Pass, which is the highest paved road in Canada, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jagged summits and turquoise waters.

Boulton Creek was great. We saw no bears but we were very bear aware. We stayed at the E loop which was close to the store and the road. The workers were lovely and incredibly helpful. The sites were quite close together but overall still very peaceful and quiet. They had running water and wifi at the store. The lady we spoke with in the store on September 19, 2025 at 7pm was absolutely lovely and helpful, didn’t catch her name but she resolved a lot of my worries. Definitely recommend, and will be staying here again!

The Staff were totally aces - we think it says a lot at the tail end of the season… an entire season or weeks on end of the same questions and maybe the odd tired, miserable and entitled camper - and you arrive to a smile, cheery, helpful voice that really welcomes you. Nicely done Bolton - we noticed your attention to service, and we really appreciate it!

Wonderfully maintained camp site - with a Trading Post/General Store and 5 min showers for $3. Lots of mountain bike trails (green and blues) and close to the Kananaskis Fire Lookout. A great time. So peaceful (except for noisy campsite neighbours!)

We’ve been camping in Peter Lougheed PP for over 20 years now, every year, sometimes twice a year. It’s a beautiful, wild and peaceful place! We’ve camped at several different campgrounds, BUT, DO NOT CAMP AT BOULTON CREEK CAMPGROUND LOOP B. We tried a powered site at Boulton Creek loop B. B-27 to be exact. We couldn’t run the fridge and water heater. They said because it was 15 amp. We’ve stayed at many campgrounds with 15 amp service, never a problem. It wouldn’t even power one single appliance. In the end, after speaking with the manager, we determined that they did not care to try and remedy the problem. We left the next day, earlier then out scheduled departed date. I wrote the Alberta Parks, NO REPLY! THEY DO NOT CARE!

Excellent as always! We stayed in the Loop B - quiet, secluded, and peaceful, with friendly neighbors all around. We had an electricity-only site, so we filled up on water before arriving since the drinking water and dump station are still closed (second week of May). The little store and ice cream shop were also still closed, but check-in and firewood were available. The store itself is mostly empty right now due to ongoing updates. Still a great experience overall—looking forward to seeing the improvements next time!
