Bridger-Teton/Hoback
Overview
Nestled along the banks of a rushing mountain river, the Hoback Campground within the Bridger-Teton National Forest offers a classic Wyoming outdoor experience. This is not your typical paved resort; instead, it provides a rustic retreat for travelers who value natural beauty over modern frills. Situated in the heart of a steep canyon, the park allows visitors to wake up to the sound of moving water and the sight of towering evergreens. It serves as a peaceful basecamp for exploring the greater Jackson Hole area while maintaining a sense of seclusion from the tourist crowds.
Location & Surroundings
Located just south of the iconic Hoback Junction, the park is positioned at the confluence of the Snake and Hoback Rivers. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dramatic canyon walls, sagebrush-covered hills, and dense stands of spruce and fir trees. Its proximity to Highway 191 makes it easily accessible for RVers, yet the natural topography provides a buffer that preserves the wilderness atmosphere. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by the scenic Wyoming range, offering a picturesque backdrop for every campsite.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional Forest Service site, the amenities focus on providing a functional connection to nature. Each site typically includes a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings. While you will not find full hookups or Wi-Fi here, the park provides essential vault toilets and access to potable water via hand pumps. The sites are designed to accommodate a variety of rig sizes, though larger motorhomes should navigate the gravel loops with care. The primary draw remains the direct access to the Hoback River, which runs immediately adjacent to many of the sites.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away in this region of Wyoming. Anglers will appreciate the premier trout fishing available right from the riverbanks, while whitewater enthusiasts can find rafting opportunities just minutes away at the Snake River Canyon. A short drive north leads to the world-renowned Grand Teton National Park and the bustling town of Jackson. For a unique soak, many visitors head to the nearby Granite Hot Springs, a natural pool tucked deep in the mountains that offers a relaxing end to a day of hiking or sightseeing.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for the self-contained RVer who thrives in a primitive setting and enjoys a slower pace of life. If you prefer the crackle of a campfire and the stars of a dark sky over cable TV and laundry facilities, you will feel right at home. It is a budget-friendly choice for families and solo travelers looking for a strategic location near Jackson without the resort price tag. Those seeking a true mountain getaway will find the Hoback area to be a refreshing change of pace.

Great little campground, the spots a tucked away along the road and a bit over grown. But being next to the river it's worth the stay.

Beautiful, inexpensive campground. No water, electricity, sewer, or dump station. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with a grill. There are a couple of pit toilets available as well. Several sites are right on the river, but there is no beach access from any of them, just a drop-off to the water. Beautiful view of the river and surrounding mountains.

Nice national forest campground close to Jackson. Small number of campsites and first come first serve. 20 dollars a night. Along a stream. Pit toilets. Bear boxes at campsites.

Loved this campground. Private sites, many on the river. Very friendly and helpful host. Normally $20 but half off (score) d/t no water/ not cleared for use yet. No cell service but connects when up on the main road. No showers. Grounds are well taken care off and the cleanest pit toilets I’ve ever experienced, and I travel the US extensively. Firewood for sale on site. Site 13, awesome

Gorgeous! Simple! River easily accessible. Experienced a really nice camp host and superb surroundings. Saw a bull moose and loved that my dog jumped into the river- before realizing it was fast and deep! Great place while tracking and just need an overnight spot.
