Bryce Canyon/Sunset Campground

Overview

Sunset Campground offers an authentic way to experience the geologic wonders of Bryce Canyon National Park. Unlike commercial resorts, this NPS-managed facility focuses on providing a direct connection to the park’s rugged landscape and diverse wildlife. It is situated in a high-elevation ponderosa pine forest, offering significant shade and a sense of serenity just a short walk from the iconic rim of the Bryce Amphitheater. The campground consists of several loops that cater to different styles of camping, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during your stay.

Location & Surroundings

The campground is perfectly positioned between Sunset and Inspiration Points within Bryce Canyon, UT. At an elevation of 8,000 feet, the air remains crisp even in summer, and the surroundings are dominated by towering trees and the nearby orange-hued cliffs. The proximity to the Rim Trail means you can leave your vehicle behind and reach world-class viewpoints within minutes. This location provides a quiet retreat from the busier visitor areas while remaining centrally located within the park's main corridor.

Amenities & Park Features

As a rustic destination, Sunset Campground provides dry camping sites without electric, water, or sewer hookups. However, visitors have access to potable water and flush toilets, ensuring essential comforts are met during your stay. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring for evening campfires. While the park accommodates RVs, size limits are strictly enforced, so it is essential to check site dimensions. A seasonal dump station and additional water fill-up stations are located nearby for the convenience of self-contained travelers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the Bryce Amphitheater, where the morning light illuminates thousands of orange and red hoodoos. Guests can easily access the Navajo Loop or Queen’s Garden Trail for an immersive hike into the canyon. Additionally, the park shuttle stop is located right at the campground entrance, providing easy transportation to the Visitor Center. As an International Dark Sky Park, the campground offers unparalleled stargazing opportunities right from your campsite once the sun goes down.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for nature enthusiasts and photographers who prioritize location and early morning access to the trails over modern luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for those with mid-sized RVs or campervans looking for a quiet, star-filled night under the Utah sky. If you are a self-contained traveler who enjoys the simplicity of traditional camping and wants to be steps away from breathtaking views, Sunset Campground offers the quintessential national park experience.

Such a beautiful place. Clean, peaceful. Camp hosts were very pleasant and chatted with us about park. Has a public restroom that was clean and trash disposal as well as propane tank disposal. Free RV dump is across street and very well maintained. Free park shuttle is also at entrance to camp. Woke up one morning and 2 mule deer with their 3 babies were grazing and bedded down for a while. Fun to watch. Site has a panic table and fire ring. Only down side is it was super hard to park 25 foot trailer with full size truck. Not alot of wiggle room to back in to narrow sites. Wouldn't recommend for trailer much larger than that. Would come here again!

Location is great; however, restrooms were undersized and lacked showers. No soap in restrooms. Given quantity of visitors park is way undersized facility wise to accommodate guests. Tokens can be purchased at general store for timed showers. Parking is difficult. Again, park has feeling of being overrun w/visitors and takes away from overall experience. Beautiful place, but dated/under-sized facilities and overpopulation negatively influences experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful campground! The sites are spacious with plenty of room, and the atmosphere is very quiet and pleasant. The facilities are clean and well maintained. I especially want to highlight the staff – extremely friendly and always helpful. You immediately feel welcome here. Highly recommended!

Great Campground very clean restrooms and nice campsites with trees, tables and firebowl. Was very quiet the whole time. We booked it via recreation.gov application and found one easily on the same day though I could imagine that it might be fuller in July and august. Location is great super close to everything

Beautiful campground amongst ponderosa pines. Super close and bikeable to the major sights along the Bryce Canyon Amphitheater area by way of the asphalt biking/walking shared use path. There are flush toilets and sinks with running water in multi stall, separate guys/gals bathrooms. Coin showers located in the nearby general store ($3 for 8 mins). Whatever you do... Do not reserve a camping spot adjacent to the bathrooms unless you do want bright light beaming into your tent all night long. There's no reason for these bathrooms to have such bright lights. It did impede on our stargazing, unfortunately.
