Bumping Lake Campground

Overview

Bumping Lake Campground offers a classic Pacific Northwest escape within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Located on the eastern edge of the scenic Bumping Lake, this destination provides a tranquil setting for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the beauty of the Yakima River basin. The park is characterized by its towering evergreen canopy and immediate access to one of the region’s most popular high-elevation reservoirs.

Location & Surroundings

Situated at an elevation of 3,400 feet, the campground is nestled in a dense forest of fir and pine near Goose Prairie, WA. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the William O. Douglas Wilderness, providing a rugged backdrop of craggy peaks and lush valleys. Travelers reach the area via the scenic Chinook Pass, making the journey as visually stunning as the destination itself, with the Bumping River winding nearby.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional National Forest site, the amenities here lean toward the rustic side, prioritizing a natural experience. The park features paved spurs suitable for small to medium RVs, though there are no utility hookups available. Visitors have access to potable water and vault toilets throughout the loops. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, while a functional boat ramp allows for easy lake access.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based recreation is the primary draw at Bumping Lake. Anglers often visit to test their luck catching kokanee salmon and trout, while the lake’s surface is perfect for kayaking and motorized boating. For those who prefer land, the nearby Boulder Creek Trail offers a gateway into the wilderness for hikers. The Bumping Lake Marina is also close by, providing essential supplies and seasonal boat rentals for visitors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who value a wilderness atmosphere over modern resort luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a summer swimming spot and outdoor enthusiasts who want to be steps away from hiking trails and boat launches. If you enjoy dry camping under a thick forest canopy and star-filled nights, Bumping Lake is a premier Washington destination.

Nice campground. Pit toilets. No Showers. Water pump, you need a bucket or something to catch the water. Shaded sites - ground was beach sand with enough pine trees to tie up a hammock. There's a fire ring in each site with a picnic table. There's a sweet and short trail to the lake from the lower campground. Upper campground is closer to the lake. Went in mid July '25. Windy, cloudy, and partly sunny weather. Lake is bluish green when the sun is out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*Bumping Lake Review* Bumping Lake in Washington is straight fire! The scenery is insane, with towering trees and crystal-clear water. It's like a little slice of heaven right here in the Pacific Northwest. I went hiking around the lake and the trails were on point. The views of the surrounding mountains and the lake itself were breathtaking. We even spotted some wildlife, which added to the excitement. If you're looking for a chill spot to relax and connect with nature, Bumping Lake is the move. Bring your hiking boots, camera, floatations, canoes, swim gears and a have yourself a blast, you won't regret it! *Rating:* 5/5 stars *Recommendation:* Don't miss the Sunrise or the sunset for the most epic picturesque views

Loved it, a great place to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors. Lake wasn't too far. About 10 mins walking distance. Dog friendly, restrooms were clean, and we loved how our site had cement around our picnic table.

We came here in August and were blessed with the weather. All 3 days that we stayed here were sunny and hot. Because the campground is located near the water, the children swam in the lake each day. I also found a small river nearby and the children enjoyed learning how to fish.
