Burr Oak

Overview

Located in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, Burr Oak State Park offers a serene escape for RV travelers seeking a deep connection with nature. This state park is centered around the beautiful 664-acre Burr Oak Lake, providing a picturesque backdrop for a wide variety of outdoor activities. The campground serves as a gateway to exploring the regional wilderness while maintaining essential comforts for visitors. Whether you are passing through Glouster or planning a week-long retreat, the park provides a tranquil environment characterized by dense forests and calm, glass-like waters.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated near Glouster, OH, within the Appalachian foothills, a region known for its rugged beauty and diverse wildlife. The landscape is dominated by lush woodlands and steep ridges, offering a sense of seclusion and privacy that is hard to find in more developed areas. Because it is part of a larger state forest complex, the surrounding environment feels untouched and expansive. RVers will appreciate the winding roads that lead to the park, providing scenic overlooks of the Ohio countryside before reaching shaded, peaceful campsites nestled among the hardwoods.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground caters to RVers with a variety of site options and functional facilities designed to make your stay comfortable. Key features available at the park include:

  • Electric hookups suitable for many different RV lengths
  • Access to a sanitary dump station and fresh water fill-ups
  • Modern restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets
  • A sandy swimming beach and multiple boat launch ramps

These amenities ensure that while you are deep in the woods, you still have access to the basic necessities required for an enjoyable camping trip.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do, from fishing for largemouth bass to exploring the extensive trail system. The famous Buckeye Trail passes through the park, offering miles of hiking opportunities for all skill levels. Boating is a popular pastime here, though there is a 10-horsepower limit to ensure the lake remains peaceful and quiet for everyone. For a change of pace, the Burr Oak Lodge is located nearby, offering a full-service dining room and panoramic views of the water, providing a nice alternative to campfire cooking.

Who This Park Is Best For

Burr Oak is an ideal destination for nature lovers and families who prefer a quiet, forest-oriented camping experience over a busy commercial resort. It is particularly well-suited for birdwatchers, anglers, and hikers who want direct access to deep-woods trails right from their campsite. RVers looking for a peaceful retreat away from highway noise and city lights will find the atmosphere here incredibly restorative. While it offers essential amenities, its true draw is the opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the simple pleasures of the Great Outdoors.

A bit off the beaten path, Burr Oak State Park surrounds Burr Oak Lake in Morgan and Athens Counties. The Burr Oak Lodge is a Rustic style lodge and conference center that offers stunning views of the lake. The park offers everything for the outdoorsman including hiking, kayaking, paddling, fishing, swimming, hunting, picnicking and has a campground with tent and RV sites as well as cabins. The park has numerous hiking trails of various lengths and activity levels with some trails connecting to the Buckeye Trail. If you are looking for a quiet get away off the beaten path Burr Oak is a great place to visit.

Beautiful place to visit and go enjoy the beautiful weather the only thing I have to complain about is the grill's along the lake need to be replaced about to fall off while you try to cook on them and they need to open back up a place to buy a drink and popcorn hotdog like back in the 90's other than that it's a beautiful place been going there since I was just a young child

Nice State Park. The short drive from marina to the beach is one of the best 1/2 mile roads in the USA. Beautiful. The campground is small and moderately rustic. Lake views are obscured by trees, which is OK. The tent-only sites are fairly spacious and set apart from the noisy RVs.

We had a great long weekend at Burr Oak. Our cabin was very clean. We enjoyed the indoor pool at the lodge and our pontoon boat rental on the lake. The lake was peaceful . If we visit again we will be more prepared. We made a couple trips to the Kroger in Trimble. We were not aware of how remote the location was.. On our way there we lost Wifi and landed at boat dock 1.instead of the lodge due to my poor directional abilities
