Stunning location, wasted potential. Cachuma Lake itself is genuinely beautiful. The setting feels like a mini Tahoe, with gorgeous water, a great boat launch and dock, plenty of space, and a smart layout. The location just outside Santa Barbara should make this a five star destination. That is exactly what makes it so frustrating. This place has the bones of a world class lakeside resort, including a restaurant that could be a destination on its own with that view. Instead it runs like a typical county operation with zero accountability. The restaurant closes early, seemingly whenever the staff feels like wrapping up, and the service has that unmotivated, cannot be bothered energy you get when nobody's livelihood depends on the customer coming back. Nature did its part here. Management is what holds it back. With a private operator and staff who actually cared, this could be one of the best lake destinations in Southern California. As it stands, come for the scenery and the boat launch, and keep your expectations low for everything else. Five stars for the lake, zero for the hustle. 2.5 overall.

We had site 520, worst camp site I have ever stayed at. Roaring Hwy 154 only 50ft from my tent. It was so loud day and night. I’ve never been camping when it was louder than being at home. All surrounding the campsite tons and tons of poison oak, EVERYWHERE! The bathrooms dirty and men’s bathroom over flowing toilets. I can’t believe I had to pay for this, I will not be back to this camp ground.

Great camping/RV area with clean bathrooms, swimming pool (seasonal) , plenty of hiking trails, boat rentals and you can drop your own at the marina. Fishing I read is good although the weekend we stayed it was chilly and slightly rainy and we got skunked. I would definitely be back. 90 minute drive from home it's a great get away for a short trip.

We love staying at Cachuma lake. We have our favorite spots but they are all nice. The lake is full and beautiful. The Hook'd Bar & Grill is delicious. A little pricey but most are nowadays. They have full hookups or partial. The partial is great because the dump station is easy in and out. We stay there once a year. Solvang & Santa Ynez are close, as is Santa Barbara. Always something to do.

This campground has become one of my favorites. There are so many campsites to choose from and the toilets/showers are fairly clean. There are day use areas such as the marina, the playground, and a general convenience store if you forget anything. They allow fishing and boating but no swimming in the lake. They come around to check for fishing licenses if they see you are fishing. We stayed in site #303 and it has a great view of the lake (see pictures). We did find some poison oak near our campsite so please be aware of it (see pictures). We stayed 3/6/26 - 3/8/26 and the weather was perfect. High 60's during the day and mid 40's before dusk. I highly recommend this campground to anyone especially beginners because the nearest town is about 10-15 minutes away just in case you need anything.
