Location & Surroundings

Situated directly on Ross Lake, the park is nestled within the city limits of Beaverton but maintains a quiet, secluded feel. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse, a convenient dump station, and a large picnic pavilion perfect for group events or family reunions. Families often gravitate toward the well-equipped playground and the sandy swimming beach. For boaters, the proximity to a public launch ensures easy access to the lake for a full day of water-based activities or relaxed paddling.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is a primary draw at Calhoun Campground, with Ross Lake being a popular spot for catching panfish, bass, and pike. Beyond the water, visitors can explore the charming shops and local eateries in downtown Beaverton. For those willing to drive a short distance, the city of Midland offers the stunning Dow Gardens and Whiting Forest. Additionally, Gladwin County is home to several nature preserves and trails that are perfect for hiking, photography, and birdwatching throughout the year.

Great potential, little effort or investment. Worse smelling and hardest well water ever experienced. Constant sewer smell from vent pipe for sewage tank at restrooms…never experienced this at any other campground past 50 years. Sites at east end are so rough that you need 4x4 at the end of your table to be level enough so your food doesn’t roll off; roots of trees at these sites are so much exposed that people are constantly tripping over them…JUST PUT A FEW LOADS OF DIRT AT THOSE SITES AND LEVEL IT OUT. Eight (8) sites per water station…unreal…run more water lines! For several years these and other issues have continued to be ignored but rates continue to escalate significantly. Pretty park, but poorly managed…what a shame Mayor Ray!

Was very nice there. The restrooms were very clean and neat. It is a well-kept camping ground. Had a nice playground. My great-granddaughter wanted to show me she enjoyed herself so. As I was only visiting there for one day but the rest of the family was camping there and they really liked it and was coming back.

Reservation did not have site number on it. Office was closed with a note to call Roy, Roy's phone goes to voicemail twice about 10 minutes apart. I asked around and that is common. We found a empty site with the reserved hookups and set camp. Roy comes in the park and tells us to move I explained that with this delay we would be late for the wedding we traveled for. Roy said we had to move. The site we were told to go to had dog crap all over it. Site was very small. Water was only fit to flush the black tank. To top it off the first site we setup on was empty all weekend.

This campground is a diamond in the rough but needs a solid management plan. Office is very rarely staffed so be prepared to call them if you need assistance. They've talked about potential improvements coming so we'll see if it pans out.

Very friendly and nice people who run the campground we rented the cabin that was available upon arrival we did not realize they were platforms beds with no mattresses, which no biggie. We went and bought air mattresses so to anyone in the cabin please be prepared, but all in all Very quaint. And Nice little campground plenty to do for the children fishing basketball bike riding nice walking trails definitely will be returning.
