After reading the reviews and seeing all the fuss about the host named Bobby, we were nervous with having three large active dogs. My sisters and I got three sites in a row for a family camping weekend. The property is nicely maintained and we were right on the water with our own “beach” to use, which was good as the beach area was closed for the season. After being there 30 minutes, our kayak strap got hung on the water spigot and busted the pipe down inside the ground. Host Bobby was amazing!! Although it couldn’t be fixed until the next day, he got out there quick and handled it. The bath houses were maintained, had hot water and thankfully not far from our site. I was worried about ants also but took a can of ant spray, kept the trash and food up and had no issues. There are no hiking trails at Old Salem but Rock Hawk was close by and the drive was not far at all. (15 -20 minutes) My son and I saw a bald eagle and a blue herring while kayaking by the boat dock in the cove! We will definitely be back! Couldn’t have been happier with our weekend and our gracious host Bobby!! This was a nice quiet, relaxing camp ground.

We went to Old Salem for the 4th of July, it was a hot one! We usually really enjoy this campground. This time the ants were absolutely horrible! We sprayed around the camper, even sprayed around the truck…we had ants everywhere! They got into the camper, they got in the truck & when I say they got in the camper & truck….they were everywhere. Trails of them little demons!!! They were so bad that we came home a day early! Was no fun fighting the ants!!! I don’t understand why they can’t spray or do something to help the campers out with these ants!!! We also had a water problem, but the camp host was spot on on that!!!

Had a great 2 night stay here. Camping spot we used had an amazing view of the lake. Only giving 4 stars bc all laundry facilities were out of order as well as the bigger playground closed for construction. Great family friendly campgrounds with amazing views.

This campground is great. Been coming here since I was eight and I’m 30 now with my own family. It’s nice and isolated but still close enough to the bougie Publix incase you forget something.

My family and I live really close by to Old Salem so we visit frequently for nice weekend getaways. This past trip we took there started out to be our worst experience yet. We stayed in site 61 and my parents stayed on site 60. A different family came in on Friday and took sites 57, 59, 63, 62 and a couple in a different area. On Friday night, that same family stayed up past 2am running up and down the street, hollering, smoking pot, drinking and all out partying even though quiet hours start at 10pm. They even had a work spot light on a stand pointed straight into my parents tent keeping them up over half the night. Then the next morning one of the women tried to have words with my wife and get an attitude with her. After walking up to the gate and speaking with the couple who work there we were told that we could move to a different site and they allowed us to leave the next day well after check out time because we lost time having to pack and unpack to move. We were then told that since we had to deal with such people while trying to relax we would be given a free weekend stay. Once the workers were made aware of the situation, they had local PD often patrolling the area and they themselves rode by those sites to make sure those people weren’t disturbing anyone else during their stay. This campground is by far our favorite place to visit for an easy getaway and the two couples that work there couldn’t be nicer and more helpful. Even though we had a rough night during one trip, we will continue to go there and look forward to many more great weekend camping trips at Old Salem.

Campground? That's a pretty slick name for a campground! No phone number, no web address. What - is this a secret clubhouse or something?

We phoned in to book and stayed at campsite #76 at the far end of the campground, just for one night. The lady who took our booking was super nice and sweet. The campsite had a lovely180 degree view of the lake with a fire ring, picnic table and outdoor grill. Very quiet spot and we could walk to the beach or the campground boat dock from our site. We enjoyed a relaxing evening by the fire during this first time visit. We did notice some cleanup issues at this campground. The biggie was we always use a shower house because our truck camper shower is so cramped. So on this 45 degree night in Oct, we walk to the shower house...NO HOT WATER! Both men and ladies. (If I we were tent campers, there would be no showers that night). In the ladies shower, one faucet sprayed in all directions, ceiling, floor and ran down the walls. The bath had empty waste baskets, but a deep cleaning of soap scum and floor was needed. Looked like just light surface cleaning was happening and the trash dumped. For example: the next morning after the bath house was "cleaned", the toilets had blue water and seats up, but I could still see my muddy footprints at the shower stall visible from the night before. My hubby spoke to the elderly gentleman host the next day and his comment on the lack of hot water was "Probably a breaker. We can't do anything, we have to turn in a maintenance request to Georgia Power". Huh? The host can't check and flip a breaker? The laundry area in the back of the bath house had one washer and dryer. The washing machine was free and we assume was working, but a dryer was "out of order". The bath house by the front gate had nice showers in the back and all had hot water. The ladies toilets were clean and smelled of vanilla scent, very nice and seemed newly renovated, though they also needed a deeper cleaning. Interestingly, we were able to have a fire at our site because the fire ring still had large charred wood pieces from a previous camper and we found other wood chunks left in nearby fire rings to burn. Before starting the campfire, we had to remove the half burned sock, burned tin can and clean up the papers and plastic left there that hadn't been picked up prior to our arrival??? Most of the campsites aren't on the water, though many have water views and all campers can walk to the boat dock or beach within 5 mins distance. The sites are spacious and shaded and mostly level. We did not have any issue with ants like other Reviews reported. People who visit here often report that they love this lake and campground and we respect that. The campground is close to shopping and civilization, with a boat launch, boat dock, beach and picnic areas. We just had a bad first experience. Because of our experiences with cleanliness/upkeep on this visit, we rate this place 3 stars.
