Camping la Descente des Femmes
Overview
Camping la Descente des Femmes offers a truly unique experience perched on the banks of the Saguenay Fjord. This park is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and intimate connection with nature. Located in one of Quebec's most beautiful villages, it provides a quiet retreat from the bustle of city life. Visitors come here to witness the dramatic cliffs and the deep blue waters that define this historic region, making it a bucket-list destination for many travelers.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, the park is nestled within a glacial valley surrounded by lush forests and towering rock formations. The terrain is notably steep, which creates a tiered layout allowing for spectacular views from almost every campsite. The surrounding area is part of the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park, ensuring the natural beauty is preserved and protected. The atmosphere is peaceful, with the sound of the wind and water being the primary soundtrack for your stay.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park leans toward a more rustic experience, it provides essential features for a comfortable stay. RV sites typically include water and electrical hookups to accommodate various camper sizes and needs. On-site facilities include:
- Clean washrooms and showers
- A communal area for guests
- Individual fire pits and picnic tables
Travelers will appreciate the scenic picnic areas available at each site. It is important for RVers to note that the narrow roads and terrain require careful navigation when arriving at the park, as the descent into the village is quite steep.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure seekers will find plenty to do right outside their doorstep. The village wharf is a short distance away, offering a perfect spot for fishing or launching a kayak excursion into the fjord. Hiking enthusiasts should explore the nearby trails, such as the Sentier de la Plate-Forme, which provides a bird's-eye view of the village and the water. Wildlife spotting is common here, and many visitors take local cruises to search for beluga whales and other marine life in the Saguenay River.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and photographers who prioritize scenery over luxury resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for smaller RVs and camper vans that can easily navigate the winding roads of the region. Travelers seeking a quiet, meditative environment will find solace here. If you enjoy stargazing and morning fog rolling over the mountains, this charming stop in Sainte-Rose-du-Nord will likely be a highlight of your Quebec road trip.

As others have described, it's a beautiful campground with lots of nice grass for our 13 y/o mini schnauzer. $40/night for water, Sewer and 15amp service at our site. (Cash only, owner does not speak english but we had good cell service for google translate) Steps from the adorable town and shore. An amazing place to stay!

A hidden gem. Ok, not sure it is really hidden but after several hard days on the road from Happy Valley/Goose Bay, staying in gravel pits, this was like heaven. Highly recommended. The photos speak for themselves. There is 15A hookup with water and sewer. We did not use the bathrooms so don't know.
