I made my reservation about two weeks ahead of time, finding a good number of spots available. It's worth noting that none of the spaces actually face the ocean or the inlet - there are trees between the campground and the highway on one side and there are 15 foot tall dunes on the other. So really, just pick any space that isn't next to the dumpster. Some folks had their cars parked and were in tents so that may be an option for you. I arrived before dark and had no problem finding my designated space that had a marker indicating my name and my dates of check in and out. After parking, I heated up dinner at my designated picnic table, enjoyed a discreet beer and then climbed the dune (on a designated path!) to watch the ocean waves for a bit. It's beautiful and there was so much room that I had a half mile of sandy beach to myself. Absolutely stunning. There are no lifeguards so be careful if you decide to swim. I did not. A quick shower in the shower cabin (cold water only!) and I locked up for the night. It was quiet and peaceful. In the morning, I was up just before Sunrise and on my way north for the ferry terminal to Hatteras. The campground has a dump station that is free if you're staying here. Other than the showers and some bathrooms, there isn't much else here.

This camp ground was lovely. Bring your own shade , there is none! The shower and restrooms are nice. The beach is fantastic. We had a great experience. We stayed in D loop and there were lots of tents and tiny campers. You wouldn't be the only tent amongst huge RVs

Great place for camping. Expect tiny mosquitoes to go through tent window nets. Also be careful where you put your tent. Ant hills in many places. My family and barely slept due to those unusual mosquitoes 🦟. The night was very hot during this summer

This place is wonderful if you're prepared! It's right next to miles of beautiful, secluded, and clean beaches, and the few people who come here are generally not the rowdy types. There will be some insects to deal with, you may want to bring your own shade to the beach, and if you get a stretch of campers with generators the hum and fumes could rankle. I was there in July; in winter I'm sure the cold showers are unpleasant. But it's right on a beautiful clean peaceful beach! If you're after quiet times in an unspoiled place with creature comforts just a quick drive away, this place could be for you. It's amazing. Thank you, park staff!

After multiple visits, this campsite has become one of my absolute favorites. Getting there requires a ferry ride, but as soon as you step onto the island, all your worries seem to melt away. This place is truly a hidden gem in North Carolina. On our first trip, we packed everything we thought we’d need—food, supplies, and more. But we quickly realized the local restaurants and stores had everything covered, especially when it came to incredible seafood! By our second visit, we packed much lighter and fully embraced the island’s offerings. If you love fresh seafood and a laid-back atmosphere, you’re in for a treat. The campsite itself is clean, quiet, and feels very safe. Even in the off-season, the facilities—especially the bathrooms—are well-maintained. The camp hosts are always friendly and present, ensuring everything runs smoothly without ever feeling intrusive. One of the best parts? Walking over the dunes and experiencing the beach at sunrise or under the stars at night. It’s absolutely magical. If you’re looking for a peaceful and well-kept escape, this is the perfect spot. Can’t wait for the next trip!

Very disappointed that generators are allowed to run nonstop all the day long into the evening ruining the athmospere of otherwise a wonderful camping trip. RVs should be confined in a dedicated area without alienating tent campers.

Great Campground. We research the campground before coming and we knew what to expect. Staff was friendly and helpful. We did have one problem, clean water at the dump station was compromise. Our water pump stopped working after finding sand and other debris in our fresh water tank. There was a bad storm that lasted a week with winds gusting up to 45mph the week prior to our arrival. That may have something to do with this problem. Other than that, we had a great time.

Great Beach, okay facilities , limited number of good sites, most on the outside perimeter, otherwise a borderline Campground, campsites just 15 ft apart. It's likely you could have a 40 ft long RV running it's generator l 15 feet from a tenter, just not well thought out. still no first come first serve. No tent loop, only a small no generator loop that's now clogged with 30 to 40 ft long RVs .. see pictures, not worth $28 a night Contact Rodney the new Ocracoke Superintendent with your concerns!

Stopped by when I was here to see it. I talk to some people on the ferry they were staying here tans said they have been here before. They said it’s a really nice set up and of course you need to make reservations in advance to go into it so my pictures only from the outside.

I felt the spots were to close to each other.
