Carlton Trail

Overview

Carlton Trail Regional Park offers a peaceful retreat nestled within the prairie landscape near the Manitoba border. This regional destination is centered around a scenic 30-acre man-made lake that provides a cooling oasis during the warm Saskatchewan summers. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and well-kept grounds, the park serves as a community gathering point that invites travelers to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of the Qu'Appelle Valley region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of the village of Spy Hill, SK, the park is characterized by its rolling hills and open skies. The surrounding area is primarily agricultural, offering a quiet environment far from the noise of major highways. Its proximity to the Qu'Appelle River system means visitors are treated to unique geological formations and a rich variety of local wildlife. The transition from flat plains to the sloping valley terrain creates a visually engaging backdrop for any RV stay.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for RVers, offering a variety of electrified campsites that accommodate different rig sizes. Travelers can take advantage of several specific features during their stay:

  • A nine-hole golf course with traditional sand greens for a classic prairie experience.
  • A 30-acre lake regularly stocked with rainbow trout for shoreline fishing.
  • Dedicated swimming areas, modern playground equipment, and public picnic shelters.

The clubhouse serves as a central hub for the park, providing a convenient place to relax after a day spent outdoors.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the industrial significance of the region by visiting the nearby potash mines in Esterhazy and Rocanville. Nature lovers can venture further into the Qu'Appelle Valley for additional hiking and birdwatching opportunities. The village of Spy Hill offers a glimpse into rural Saskatchewan life, with local history and small-town charm just a short drive away. Many visitors enjoy spending their afternoons alternating between the swimming area and the quiet walking trails that skirt the park perimeters.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for family campers looking for a safe and active environment where children can roam freely between the playground and the lake. It is also a fantastic match for avid anglers and budget-conscious golfers who appreciate the novelty of sand greens. Very friendly but campsite was dirty (carpet pads, broken solar light, random bits of garbage. Bathrooms were ok...nice hot water... campground map very confusing!

The park is beautiful with plenty to do that’s for sure and the staff are friendly. I mainly go for the driving range but I’ve almost never had a smooth experience with this. I would really appreciate if they were more consistent with having driving range balls available during operating hours and if they removed the red spray paint from them. I don’t like having to clean my clubs every time I use the range due to paint transfer. They are more than likely repurposed balls golfers had lost to begin with, no need to be stingy with them possibly being stolen if they aren’t yours to begin with guys. They also need to be more communicative about groundskeepers activities. I’ve had to wait half an hour once I got to the range to wait for the groundskeeper to finish mowing. Finally, a driving range with no yardage signs? Really? C’mon… Regardless, it’s an extremely nice park in every other aspect except for the driving range.

Awesome place to visit on a sunny day or for a family camping trip. The lake is great for swimming with some nice inflatable trampolines and climbers. They added a slip and slide and bounce castle this year, and the park is always great! There's mini golf and golf here as well.

A pretty park surrounded by beautiful lake and a well maintained 9 hole golf course that has rolling hills on it. We had a 40' motorhome and parked on a spacious grass covered spot with water and 30 amp power. The bathrooms and showers although old were clean. Finding our assigned space was challenging as there were no campground maps available. Staff were very friendly.

Nice time, friendly people. Privacy was good. Some updates needed with washroom facilities. Loved the little wildlife visitors. Check-in was not possible for us due to late arrival and it was difficult to find our site. Also no wood available then. A few under-aged golf cart drivers were seen throughout our stay and also some trends driving much too fast. Mini-golf course was fun. Overall, a very positive experience and we hope to visit again.
